    Incredibly long boot time...

Amongst a sea of "Rate my FF14 rigs!" posts, comes something a bit different. I put my new machine together about two weeks ago, and it was working brilliantly. This morning, everything was fine when I woke up, and browsed the web before I went out to work. Tonight, I get home, and the boot time for my PC takes I dunno, more than a full minute to get past the first boot screen for RAM. Usually, this was under 5 seconds. I ran a Windows Diagnostic test on the memory, and it says it's fine. Why the sudden change? I'm thinking the memory could have partially crapped out, but I don't know. Everything is < 30 days old, so I can just go back to MicroCenter and exchange it, but I want to make sure before I do so.

When I say incredibly long, I just mean from what it was. I'm going to try taking it out then putting it back in, seeing if that does anything. Any other suggestions on what it might be?

Any of your HDDs making clicking noises?
I had a secondary hdd that was near death. Once I unplugged that, things magically sped up.

Not that I know of, I'll have to check though. My 1 TB hard drive is one of those really shitty dell ones. Since everything is under warranty at the store, I'll bring it in for them to check out. I might break down and get a new hard drive anyway. The Dell supplied ones are such trash. It's about 2-3 years old, I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has.

Does it hang at any point during the boot? Mine used to hang when it tried to access a certain hard drive when it was scanning my devices. I unplugged it later and bootups became faster, similar to what bebeci said. Pay more attention to the boot, and if your BIOS has a splash screen, disable it so you can see what's going on during POST.

Did you check in the BIOS for RAM testing at start up?

It doesn't really hang, but it's really slow on the first Bios screen where it is checking the RAM. I can do a soft reset, so it's not completely frozen. It stops for about 70 seconds or so before going to the next screen where it shows all the devices (sorry, don't know all the terminology)

As I said, last week it only took about 10 seconds for this whole process. I haven't added any hardware, only software, and nothing to the Motherboard itself. In a bit I'll check out the screen again, see if it sees anything.

Usually there are options for you to select of how quick you want the RAM to be check.

Yeah I'm aware of that, but I haven't changed anything around in the Bios since I set up the PC a week ago, and all of a sudden it's changed. As I said, I'll look in a bit, but I have not changed anything at all.

Actually, I just checked it out. The computer isn't reading my secondary hard drive, which is probably causes it to hang at first. Which really kinda sucks. I had all my .rar'd games on there. It is pretty old to be fair. I'm contemplating on picking up two hard drives though. Nothing of a major loss though! Thanks for all the help

Glad that you solved it. Lol I lost 3secs of load time because I have SATA 6GB/s drive connected ><
