Random drug screenings. My roommate who smoked weed frequently got injured on the job, called in the next day saying he got hurt and didnt want to make it worse by coming into work. They came up with some corporate BS that he had to go get cleared by the doctor and take another drug test. Well, he fessed up and said that he wasn't going to pass a drug test and quit right there as to not get fired.

Anyways, lesson of the story, dont smoke and you wont have a problem.

Ya i've heard stories like that. Anytime someone at a friend of mine's workplace gets into some kind of accident with a machine they're drug tested. You do make a valid point though you really shouldn't do them to begin with. At least until they're possibly legalized.

The fact that you think an employer cares about your shitty pot habit is amusing. I highly doubt that your hair test is being pulled for marijuana usage. Then again, employees that smoke marijuana are typically tardy and absent more often than normal employees.

A much better way to explain why one believes someone in line/searching for a job should not use illegal substances. It's definitely superior to commenting like a supposed authority on something you're unfamiliar with.

The morality of pot isn't really the issue here, it's common sense. Employers look for drugs, so if you want to keep your job, don't do them; simple. It sucks that you can't get stoned off your rocker anytime you want but it's the price paid in society currently.

Spend less time getting mad at people for just pointing out the obvious solution (which, granted, is a moot point at this point in your predicament) or trying to 'cheat' the process and more time getting the shit legalized and you won't have this problem.

Smoked it once every two or three weeks this past spring, my last semester in college. Not a regular user by any means. Had my start date for my job, and guess what? I had the common sense to not smoke two months before I moved to my new place. And they didn't even bother with a drug test. "I didn't think they'd test for drugs with my hair" is a lame excuse, sorry bro.

A false positive is considered a positive. They check for adulterating agents now, so trying to eat or drink things to throw them off will result in a positive test result even if they didn't return any drugs.

wow you know my life so well. Wanna hear how I got here? Last semester was the second semester of my junior year at uni. My gf graduated in may. In May, I found out I would not be receiving enough aid to continue going to my uni, so I dropped out. As of may 2nd ish, my gf and I began to prepare our plans to move to China in August to teach english. So middle-end of may, we moved back to our hometown and prepared to live with our parents for a few months while we got small dumb jobs to pay for a few things before we left. My 2nd day of looking I was offered a branch managing position for a coffee shop and took it, and then some shit happened and they had to close in the next few days. Fast forward to june 25, we are both still looking for tiny jobs (I'm working at family restaurant like 15-20 hours a week to at least have some revenue in the meantime). She applied to a great company somewhat as a joke, and ended up getting the job. It pays around 80k a year after the first 6 month. We talk about it and decide it's best to live here a few years, erase ours debts, get married, and save money before returning back to China. So instead of looking for a shitty quick job, I begin searching for a good job.

First, like others stated, what the hell are you doing smoking, knowing you are currently seeking employment.

In my opinion, unless this application is for your local Wal-Mart or McDonalds, It is up to the company to hire, not the drug test. The fact that they are actually paying for such an expensive drug test which involves hair would lead me to believe this is more for a job in an actual company.

At times, they are looking for much harder drugs like cocaine, heroin, and drugs along those lines. Not a pot head who enjoys a joint or two on his or her day off.

Relax. I have seen many encounters where companies hiring individuals who smoke pot in their free time come clean and are hired making good money. They are, however, responsible enough to know coming to work under the influence is a fast ticket to unemployment. My concern would not be failing the drug test, but wondering if these tests are documented and stored somewhere. Are future employers able to pull up past tests or are they sealed?

This is a great thread. I haven't touched any form of illegal substance since highschool. Getting hurt is a very high probability at my job, and since it's civil service, if I get tested I'm fucked. If I get hurt or into an accident, I'm almost guaranteed a drug test... unless a ceiling randomly falls on me or a room flashes over, thats typically out of my own power. Once in a while I remember the good ol days, but it's not worth it to risk the best job in the world to me.

Not every job drug tests. It's very common for most places to require a drug test though before being hired, it typically means you are getting the job if they are putting you that far into the application process. Lot's of jobs that are driving based, or have machinery or labor involved will drug test you if you get hurt on the job. It's a liability for the employer. If you get hurt on the job, they have to pay you to not work, however if you have drugs in your system, then obviously they don't.
