That's kind of fucked up, I can imagine a lot of people, myself included, not wanting some random drug test employee hacking away at my hair. Anyway, hope it turns out well.

As for my earlier question, I'd be interested to really find out if they have any kind of idea as to when drug use took place, even if it were only 2 or 3 years out and how they go about it. I guess it's up to each individual company, but I'm not really sure what "I smoked weed once 3 years ago" says to an employer about a potential employee.

had my test yesterday and holy shit do they take a lot of hair; basically gave me a hair cut. dude said I wouldn't believe how many people fail the test which made me believe they are looking for thc lol. Also said a dude recently came in for a test with short hair and zero body hair. I asked him what happens and he says dude just has to wait for his hair to grow long enough to get tested before he can start work. fool sahved everything for nothing heh

But it also buys him time to clean up? Its still fucking bullshit they even test people, or run credit checks.

Not sure what you mean by this but I've been piss tested 5 weeks after the last time I smoked and still had trace amounts in there, very very low amount but still.

They could probably make a guesstimate based on the data but they probably can't accurately pinpoint the last use (i.e. We know you smoked weed within 5-8 years ago). For piss tests they can get a bit more accurate because the degradation process can be easily mapped, however after 30 days the sample is completely out of your system (By blood and urine). Like I said earlier, science just isn't advanced enough to get an accurate reading but probably will get a bit more technical as time goes on.

As for actually admitting you smoked earlier, to prospective employers, it can show how easily you are addicted to drugs, what your abuse habits are, and overall what kind of person you are (a stoner who did drugs for 10 years then quit 3 years ago isn't going to be as quick on his feet as a guy with no drug history). Anyone who hires in any government agency or public safety field is gonna piss test and it's going to get worse as marijuana becomes legalized (I think). You see people (Blockbuster) doing tests nowadays because they don't want the stuff in their workforce. Just because it's legalized, doesn't mean people aren't still going to reject the idea and the stuff. It's about image I suppose. Knew a guy who got rejected from the fire department because he had a prescription to percocet he had to take for nerve damage in his spine. They tested him, asked him about it, he explained the prescription and they denied him saying "If you want to work here, you can't take any medication or drug that would otherwise impair you in any way."

Ya we had a bunch of guys go in for testing for insurance reasons for the area they had to work in, one guy had to go back 4 times before he was clean enough to work it'd been 7 weeks for his test to show level tolerable to work. Dude almost lost his house because he couldn't work until his test was clean.

Thanks for the informative posts. I'm a little skeptical about companies getting worse about their selection processes with potentially legalized drugs involved as I don't see that alcohol being legal gives any greater reason to be given a pass. (there aren't generally any measures taken against alcohol consumption, yeah? lol) From a company's standpoint, as far as legal substances are concerned, it's all under the assumption you aren't under the influence while working, I'd think. I think that would be the cause behind the incident with your friend and Percocet is (I'm assuming) because he'd need it throughout the day.

I guess it's partly cultural and partly an individual decision for companies to make. With that said, I wouldn't expect someone with a background check indicating previous alcohol abuse to skate by either.

I'm applying for a Gov't job, and this one doesn't test. Most Gov't jobs only do urinalysis if they even do a drug test. I have family that have retired from Gov't service and never been tested, not even pre-employment.

Just as a heads up, the first comment may not apply if you are a fattie, I've failed a urine test once after being clean for (almost?) 3 months, then again I was smoking heavily for quite a long time.

Guessing something to do with THC being stored in your fat or whatnot (at least that is what I have been told) either way be careful about the whole 30 day bit

Then again I've had friends who were heavy smokers pass after only abstaining for two weeks, YMMV.

As for the latter comment, not to flame but that's not true, at least if you are comparing a mj user to say a drinker or a cigarette smoker. (Burnouts notwithstanding) Now if you are comparing a stoner to someone who does not abuse anything, legal or not then I could agree with the statement.

I would consider myself a stoner yet just by talking most people assume I am straight edge and tend to be shocked when I say I smoke.

Edit: Grats on passing the test. Oddly enough when I have done sub contractor work for local governments I was never tested.
