They could probably make a guesstimate based on the data but they probably can't accurately pinpoint the last use (i.e. We know you smoked weed within 5-8 years ago). For piss tests they can get a bit more accurate because the degradation process can be easily mapped, however after 30 days the sample is completely out of your system (By blood and urine). Like I said earlier, science just isn't advanced enough to get an accurate reading but probably will get a bit more technical as time goes on.
As for actually admitting you smoked earlier, to prospective employers, it can show how easily you are addicted to drugs, what your abuse habits are, and overall what kind of person you are (a stoner who did drugs for 10 years then quit 3 years ago isn't going to be as quick on his feet as a guy with no drug history). Anyone who hires in any government agency or public safety field is gonna piss test and it's going to get worse as marijuana becomes legalized (I think). You see people (Blockbuster) doing tests nowadays because they don't want the stuff in their workforce. Just because it's legalized, doesn't mean people aren't still going to reject the idea and the stuff. It's about image I suppose. Knew a guy who got rejected from the fire department because he had a prescription to percocet he had to take for nerve damage in his spine. They tested him, asked him about it, he explained the prescription and they denied him saying "If you want to work here, you can't take any medication or drug that would otherwise impair you in any way."
