Sorry to thread hijack here. Been putting off owning a PC for the longest time myself (ffxi on ps3 lol), and I've never really shopped for one, how much different would the things in a build with budget of $1000 than the $600 one above?

    Much better processor.
    Better Vid card.
    Kickass motherboard.
    Better RAM.
    Better case.
    Aftermarket cooling.

So pretty much everything. Also depends on if you need an OS, monitor, etc.

I didn't think crossfiring would be a problem now since the video card is plenty enough to run FF14 (not to mention far beyond what others have posted in their builds), and if he wants to replace the CPU with an i7 eventually anyway, he will need a new (intel) board. This is the cheapest board that Xfires (HERE) and that puts him above his $600 limit by $6 or so, and it runs the second card at x4 which is a pretty big loss in performance compared to even dual x8. Saying that the board doesn't Xfire as a negative is pretty dumb to me whenever he can't afford more than a single GPU anyway right now, and the board also lacks USB3 + SATA3, so for futureproof's sake, most boards under $100 or so are pretty crap. Using THIS combo (instead of the ram and board I posted above) offers USB3, SATA3, and x16+x4 Xfire for about the same price, though. Not to mention it's less money up front and less hassling with MIRs.

Better processor, better motherboard (dual x8 xfire). 5770 will run FFXIV fine, with room to xfire them later if he chooses.

Can OC the processor later as well if he gets an aftermarket cooler.

Matter of preference I guess, depends on if he wants to Xfire 5770s@8x eventually without USB3/SATA3 or actually have a decent single card setup with USB3/SATA3. Though a 955BE is pretty nice in a $600 setup as well.

Just pointing out flaws. Didn't know the HDD was on the receiving end of the code.

That said let me fix both of our builds. Lyrai I think you should forget about upgrading into an i7; it would only be a waste of money.

All totals are before MIR. I don't count them as part of the budget.

Are you basing this on alpha or beta experience? I have a 5770 myself and after running the benchmark I feel its in a region just under "fine", but I haven't played the actual game.

I would like that CPU+mobo combo if he would settle with it. If he turned around and upgraded, it would be terribly wasteful.

*She (No girls on the internet, etc, no offense taken, lol)

And I'm mulling it all over anyway, probably will end up with a combination somewhere, though I'm leaning towards an Intel build since I'm going for the i7 later on. I've pretty much gotten a much better idea of what my build options are now though, and there's a lot more that I can do with my budget than I expected.
