So rather than 192.168.1.1 for a router (well, that's not my router's IP, but it's the default for most) I'm going to have to remember something 4x as long? Beautiful.

Going to miss 127.0.0.1. Time to look-up a guide to see how much of a hassle it is to configure IPv6 for DD-WRT so I'm ready whenever the heck the transition occurs down in the following years.

[EDIT] Seems DD-WRT's mini firmware package doesn't include it due to space constraints, beautiful. Guess that might change down the road anyhow when it becomes a necessity.

Those are private addresses and won't be changing. The only thing that's going to change is the address you get assigned by the ISP.

172.16.x.x~172.31.x.x

are private IPs (not broadcast throughout the internet).

Really don't know a whole lot about IP's, but can't they just add another .XXX number to make new ones? And the next time they start running out again, add another three numbers?

I wish it were that easy, but the typical dotted quad IP address notation doesn't reveal the whole story. IP addresses are really 32-bit integers, and subnet masks are bit-masks.

Arguably you'll have an easier time remembering IPv6's localhost.

It's ::1.

However, that's not the point -- DNS names are going to be more critical than ever, as will automatic discovery and numbering tools like Bonjour/mDNS, DHCP, etc. We as end users shouldn't have to be remembering ridiculously complex numbers. Let the software deal with that problem.
