    PSX Emulator for Android

I know we have an Android sticky but I figure this is worth it's own thread so more people see it.

Psx4droid is out on the market now, and is a fully functional PSX emulator. Obviously you need a fairly high powered phone to run it well. I've heard mixed reports about how well various games run on it, but I'm loading up my FFIX/Vagrant Story/SoTN eboots (reads basically any PSX file, eboot is a nice bonus for people with hacked PSPs), and will report back once I test them out.

Who will be the one to save me $6 to test?

Sound is a bit buggy, and it seems to lag unless you set refresh rate to 30.

Vagrant Story felt playable on my Evo, so I'm sure a Droid or Galaxy S should play it pretty well. FFIX multi Eboot wouldn't load, so guess it can only handle single disc eboots. Giving a SoTN disc image a spin next.

For a first release seems pretty solid, especially given how crappy the gpu on the Evo is.

Edit : Doesn't like .mdf format for discs, couldn't load up SoTN. Trying out some other eboots I have lying around.

Tested out Street Fighter EX on my Droid running 2.1. Everything renders OK but definitely too slow to actually play. Looking forward to testing it again after getting Froyo.

If you disable sound games run pretty damn well, otherwise it's a little scratchy.

Diablo ran pretty well from what I saw, Suikoden II seemed ok as well.

From what I saw I wouldn't reccommend it in current form for Action games, but rpgs (especially 2D) should be playable.

And set refresh rate on 30, right now all games seem pretty damn laggy without that since there's no frame skip option.

Looking at the thread where i saw it, Droid X runs FFVII with no issues at default settings, otherwise it seems like a phone is gonna need to be packing Froyo to get good performance.

So yeah, while PSX Diablo was less then ideal since Mouse/KB is a better setup, being able to play Diablo on my phone is pretty damn hot.

It's not all the way there yet, but this has a ton of promise, and thankfully this app will just keep getting better as phones increase in power.

And... was testing before I finished this post. Breath of Fire IV works, done. Best android app ever. Some glitches but I can now play BoF IV on my phone, nothing else matters.

Just installed it, "ripping" some ISOs off the interweb and will try.

Also, what's best image format? Have .isos but could make them eboots if needed. (though I don't really remember how to.)

I dunno, both formats seem to run about equally, I'm gonna convert BoF4 into an eboot in the morning to save on space and see if it causes any issues or increases load time.

In the meantime, SHIT is on my PHONE!

There's some texture tearing in some parts and a bit of scratchy audio, but with refresh rate set to 30 this seems to be running almost perfectly, didn't see any noticable slow down or anything. Only real issue is lack of R2/L2 button mapping right now, which I would assume should be fixed pretty quickly, moreso since the developer probably just made bank tonight.

Edit: Also worth noting is this same developer is working on a N64 emulator for Android

Out of plum curiosity, how badly does the app rape your battery life?

20ish minutes of BoFIV took out around 7/8% of my battery, which is actually about on par with the SNES emulator as well.

I.E. pretty bad, but nothing worse then what I expected.

Just played FF9 for 20 minutes, it runs fairly well on 2.2, sound is unsynced by half a second and there is none during cutscenes and battle menus keep blinking otherwise it's fully functionnal and enjoyable.

This is pretty much badass. I've tried the following:

FF7 (JP International) - Some glitchy menus in battle, sound off just a 1/2 second or so. Perfectly enjoyable-- I am just wondering how the disk swap is going to work after disc 1? It might not yet.

BOF4 - Tried it out, seemed to work great.

    Tactics Ogre - Great.

Thunderforce V - A little slow with sound on. Turned it off and the speed was almost perfect, but it is a bit hard to play with the touch controls.

Suikoden II - Briefly tried, seems great.

All on Droid Incredible. Stock 2.1.

Got an eboot lying around, but haven't bothered with it yet. Woke up this morning and remembered Castlevania exists and been playing Ecclesia on my DS.

I've been told that FFVIII runs pretty well, but haven't bothered to copy my isos over.

Ok yeah I found that glitch in BoF4, lame. When I played Vagrant Story I also noticed that at times the AI just seemed to turn off. So this emu obviously needs a bit of work but hey, at least it's started.

I've got actual Chrono Cross, so I'll rip it to an ISO and try it out soon.

i have a CC rip also, that works FLAWLESSLY on PSP with a 3.72 ver of the PSX emu on there. if you need, i can upload it, but if you can run FF8 to work on the driod, than you're golden. thats the hardest EBOOT to run on any PSX hand held emulator, imo. its like the "test" game to see how good and far you can go, lol. I've never gotten passed the Garden Facility after you meat irving on any version of my personal iso rips or DL's, with ANY version of the homebrews on my psp, lol. if droid can run that game with np's/freezes, im spending my next paycheck on it, so i have something to do on my breaks lol.

I gave FF8 a spin for a few minutes, but I can go test out what always crashes it on PSP in a few minutes (i.e. Draw and Scan). Frame hiccups during the opening video, and there was frame lag when alot of models were moving, but seemed playable from what I saw.
