Holy shit I actually used Pandora in a shitty connection where Hwaorang should have killed Guy after that EX kick. It's ok, I expected him to go for a throw so I gave him a super surprise.

Some high level play, still pretty hype to me, and the matches go by really fast.
It'll be hype enough at Evo: certainly no less hype than seeing the average Haxbox Cammy mirror match online. I'll be interested to see how much stock the pros put into sacrificing damage for positioning, or vice versa. There are so many ways for bulldog characters to put their prey into the corner with a hard knockdown every time they touch someone.
It's not hype at all....
# of comebacks 0
# of random "oh shit I might lose" moments 0
# of seconds it takes to already know who is going to win about 20
There are too many hits happening for practically no damage
and the commentators sound bored, it's like they wait for a string of attacks to finish before they say something again. The pace of the game is too slow.
For me, It's fun to play but boring as hell to watch
Did you not watch the first Mike Ross v Martinez game? I thought it was exciting, hell I'd consider that a comeback in the first match considering his zangief has 10% left before he tagged in marduk. Didn't know how that game was gonna go until it was down to the last hit for each. What about the second Kelvin v GLK match? Pr balrog was about to lose in the 3rd match vs Kelvin, came back and won? Ricky vs PR Rog first round.... rog had a pixel left on dudley. How don't you consider those comebacks? It's just a handful of matches in what seems like a casual environment, but I still thought that they were interesting/exciting to watch. You can't have too many comebacks in that type of environment and such a low sample. Not to mention the game isn't even played CLOSE to its potential (haunts advertises high level gameplay but I wouldn't put Mike Ross, Alioune and a bunch of randos at high level cept ricky).
Wat@Too many hits happening for no damage? What does that even mean? most of the matches ended before the 50 second mark, how can you complain about there being no damage? There's going to be random stray hits that aren't capitalized upon, just like in SF4 or even marvel, so I don't see how that effects... anything, especially when you have combos doing 50% of the opponents health in some cases.
I just wanted to say, I didn't mean to say that you can't say the game is boring, just that I didn't think those reasons were valid. I just don't think that everything in the game is being optimized and think that'll change in the future. Alpha counter -> switch cancel combo into pandora perhaps? Just an idea of the potential.
And thats perfectly fine, This is one of the reasons I like SFxT over AE. No fucking shit wake-up wtf ultra, or punishing shit bullcrap you only got because you got beat down (again ultras). if you failed your fight you failed it because your opponent was better and not because of some random bullshit you got, because you were loosing. Pandora is situational but still usefull, but you need the ability/mind/guessing to set it up properly, there is no random shit in it.
you cant combo on Alpha counters. That was just changed in the ver. 2013. (you could before)
Oh, I thought I saw someone combo an alpha counter in a random 2013 vid. Must've just been an ex move. still, game is no where near fleshed out.
They buffed a lot of AAs in this game, why does it encourage jumping besides for oki, which is what 99% of SF4 oki consists of now? There are no assist gems in the preset gems, hence it's completely irrelevant in tournies. Red Gems are kinda OD, but from my understanding the preset ones have retarded activation conditions?
And paul is no where near bullshit, lol. And mashing only works online, afaik.
I don't want this to be MvC3. I don't want someone to get blown up in one 3-hit combo after dominating the match because of bullshit mechanics. I want to see the best player win. Fuck your hype. Mahvel has your hype. AE has some of your hype. Show me footsies; show me sacrificing damage for positioning and vise versa; show me a situation that, just like in ST, you're fucked because you put yourself in that situation.
It still has a few dry spots, but I'm absolutely loving this game right now. I can't wait to see it at EVO.
ST has retarded damage lol. Mistake = dead.
Guilty gear will forever be the game of absolute hype, along w/ marvel 2. Sfxt still lacks, the engine is still ass, the game itself is unfixable. Unfortunately, there's still no fun in the game. The 15 minutes i played the game again in 2013, i remembered how horrible it was. Again this is just me, but for one game i was hyping for a long ass time completely turned me off from playing FGs for a really long time, kinda says a lot.
It seems like people pick up this game and not other fighting games because they do not how to respect when their opponent could wreck their shit in a short amount of time be it X Factor or Ultra combos.
Currently the sponsored players are in support of this game saying it's amazing with all the changes and blah blah
The reality? game is still the same. Extremely bland. There are still timeouts and run away tactics.
Even, a game like KoF has hype and that game does not reward you getting your ass kicked. So no it's not about that comeback mechanic at all. Even Mortal Kombat has better comebacks.
This game still sucks to watch. there is a reason that even after all it's changes there are more viewers for SF4AE2012 than this at West Coast Rumble and there will be at future tournaments, let me know if this changes.
I think i just miss those games with a real comeback actually required skill over a mechanic in the game. KOF, guilty gear, blazblue, mvc2, cvs2, 3rd strike, they all had that hype as fuck skilled comeback gameplay. That's what makes games hype as fuck and fun imo.
You shouldnt have to respect your opponent because of some random gimmicks, thats what I hate about AE (albeit the game is good) and mvc3. You should respect your opponent because they can consistently AA you and beat you out on footsies and are in your mind, mindfucking you + for their consistency in doing combos when they land 1 hit. Thats what I like.
I spend sometimes meter in SFxT for pointless shit dmg, for example Poisons EX. rekka move, scales horrible and does shit dmg, but good lord I can push my oponnent with that from one end of the screen to almost the other when I follow it up with a st. HP ----> poisons srk. I sacrificed one meter and gained in exchange insane corner Pressure where Poison excells at. You want to punish my fireball game with Super? Try to build first meter to be able to do that and not because of some Ultra you got because you were loosing! (You = opponent, wasn directed at you personally)
Comebacks are possible in SFxT and they do happen, they just arent piss easy to perform + they are character dependand. I know that Poison has shit comeback potency compared to Lily, she doesnt excell at that (low dmg output on poison). Thats why its even more important for me to be on point with her zoneing, footseing and taging in my partner for the dmg.
