The best tourneys have the most international comp, not Tokido and thats it. Hell, last year CEO and Revelations even split the USA comp, it was shitty.
Hopefully Vesper isn't allowed near CC this year

I am getting the feeling that the SF chars are indeed better then the Tekken cast. Once you know the attack scheme of a specific Tekken char, its extremly hard for them to get in, due to crappy footsies they have. Dont ask me why, its just a feeling I got lately, + the fact that so many SF chars have solid AA options.

I paid and it was worth every damn penny. Best tourney I watched online all year.

As far as SFxTK tier list goes, I think we will see the following in S rank from Sf side:

    Rufus
    Rolento
    Chun Li
    Ryu

In that order. I think Chun is the one being slept on the most. She seems extremely good.

And who from the tekken side?

    Kazuya?
    Hwoarang?
    Steve?
    Jin?

I'll say this, steve as anchor in the right hands (read: Marn) is scare as fuck.

If you want to base the best tourney's on most international comp, who went to Shadowloo Showdown? It was all elive players, poongko, mago, and tokido. There was a bunch of JP no shows like KSK, kokojin, sako, haitani, etc. The only US player there was Mike Ross. There was no Jwong, no Latif, no Krone, no RickyO.. America wasn't represented at all in that tournament.

Shadowloo Showdown is all hype generated by amazing trailers. (rightfully so because they're amazing) But the tournament itself boils down to Australia vs a handful of top Japan players.

Tokido doing "the pose" at SCR was probably the hypest moment of the Evo Season. Season's Beating's SF4 and Marvel were amazing as well. CC was cool but only because of the team tournament. - Marvel and SF4 singles were almost complete afterthoughts.

Because the team tournaments were the best thing that happened all damn year other than EVO top 8 SF4.

Wong / Chris G / Marlin Pie are all at Shadowloo this year. Going to be amazing. You can bet at least 7-10 USA pros will be there this go around. F-Word and a lot of the Euro top players are already confirmed for Shadowloo as well.

Shadowloo 2011 SF4 results destroy any tourney other than EVO from last year. Shadowloo was the coming out party for Poongko AND Xian:

    1. Poongko (Seth)
    2. Momochi (Yun, Ken, Cody)
    3. eLive|RF (Sagat)
    4. MCZ|Tokido (Akuma)
    5. Uryo (Sakura)
    5. TTC|GamerBee (Adon)
    7. Kindevu (Yun)
    7. Xian (Yun)
    9. coL.cc|Mike Ross (E. Honda)
    9. MOV (Ken)
    9. ToXY (Akuma)
    9. Hatani (Makoto)
    13. MCZ|Mago (Fei Long)
    13. HumanBomb (Yang)
    13. Itabashi Zangief (Zangief)
    13. Makoto (Vega)

It's hard for him to get in, but paired with a character that can put them in the corner could still be deadly.

Might as well call Gods Garden the best tournament of the year then. At least Daigo is there.

And Peter Rosas introducing the entire world to BIONIC ARM at FR last year didn't even make your top 5?

    lol

Steve has a horrible time getting in on chars that have very good low footsies, like Juris cr. MK, cammys cr. MK. Chun li in general

    i would say:
    Raven
    Kazuya

I would put Nina up there too. She seems not to be overwhelming at first, but she can dish out some nice solo dmg without expending meter and most of her moves seem safe. However the only Tekken char to actually reach Top rank like the mentioned SF chars above is only Raven.

Hwoarang is a nice tag partner to extend combos, but his low/high mix up is limited once you figured it out. Then again he is one of the few Tekken chars with a solid anti Air move (not great but solid).

@Weltall: I would put up Juri up there too. She has just very good pokes, a solid zoneing game and can dish out very nice dmg.

When the hell did I list a top 5? I listed 2 things, EVO Top 8 SF4 and CC Team Tournament.....lol

If you're talking about the tournaments I listed,
    "EVO >> Canada Cup >>> Shadowloo>>>Season's Beatings>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Everything else"

I was talking about how they compared to each other overall, and that takes into account their history (thats how SB got on there)

I can list a top 5 "moments" from last year though lol.

    Moments

    1. EVO SF4 Top 8 (There is enough moments in this alone to fill the top 5)

    2. CC Team Tourney (Europe getting destroyed was worth every penny of 8.95)

    3. PR Balrog Tron @ EVO finals

    4. Poongko coming out @ Shadowloo

5 - Tie. Bionic Arm / Tokido Pose

I don't even know what happened at last year's Revelations / CEO / Winterbrawl / Summerjam / NCR etc. A Ross vs. Jebailey match? lol. A lot of the domestic tourneys are now slacking behind international ones.

I'm not talking moments, I'm talking overall hype and atmosphere of a tournament and their affect on the scene thereafter.

SS was good because of poongko, but outside of that it was a normal JP wreck house. Canada Cup was fun because of the team tournament, but no one remembers nor cared about the singles tournaments. Season's Beating's was good because of team tournaments, Daigo getting shit on, etc.

Every tournament was hype. To say that there was 4 great tournaments and everything else was just blah is dumb when I can easily make a case for a lot of tournaments being amazing last year.

Edit: there may have been some weaker majors, but the only 'perfect' major is Evo. Everyone else has to rely on tradition or a certain shtick to get people hype.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think SB was the first time Krone showed Jwong he was a grown ass man?

I'm not saying any of the tourneys are BAD; I am just saying a few specific have VERY MUCH risen above the rest. I'm almost as excited to sit at home, drink beer, and gamble with friends watching Canada Cup as I am GOING to EVO.

I am actually pissed my flight to Vegas in May is on the same day as Shadowloo finals. I wouldn't give a rat's ass if it was CEO/FR/NCR/etc.

For what it's worth, SF in any form was virtually non-existent in Korea before Shadowloo last year. There was Poongko, Infiltration, Laugh, and... a few hobos that would dick around in the small side room at Green Arcade, but were fucking terrible. These days, between the hype brought by Poongko and Infiltration doing well internationally, and a lack of new good games (even for a Tekken place, TTT2 is so bad it's not being played seriously. KoF13 is currently the king over here) the Korean SF4 scene is getting bigger and bigger. We've started to see more Korean players travelling, like Zzangmoo, though without much success yet. If they can keep the scene growing here, I believe it's only a matter of time before Korea will have a very strong presence internationally. Also, as Welt mentioned, it was Xian's coming out party too. By this measure, I think an argument could be made that perhaps no other tournament save Canada Cup will have as long-lasting an effect on the international scene as SS last year.
