Definite difference. Just one match and I could feel it. PS3 version might not have been bothering me since I've been playing on emulators so long(which kind of have that inherent delay in them), but one match on XBOX definitely felt like the real thing.

And took exactly that one match for me to get hate mail over Live. Like I'm gonna play fair in an Akuma vs Hugo match.

Also, for anyone that is really playing this game for the first time, google "Street Fighter III strategy guide pdf." You can also find it buried on SRK somehere. The old SF Anniversary collection guide was downright awesome. There is some crappy information in it (some wrong frame data, and the strat section for a few characters is a little off), but if you have no experience with the game, it's an excellent primer. On the same level as the awesome guide that came out for Mahvel 3.

Is Urien a good character to start off with or should I start off with a shoto and work from there?

Urien requires mastery of charge partitioning to have any serious fun with. Shotos have always been the beginner's characters across every SF game so start there if you need to build your confidence with the mechanics before branching out to new frontiers.

I love Twelve and Necro because they're so out there, but I've only really played Ken when I'm actually trying.

Edit: Parrying someone and then supering them is sooooo satisfying. I can't wait to get home and DL this on 360.

No matter who you play as you'll have to get used to buffering in Super combos. A big part of the game for much of the cast is being able to connect your Supers off of your footsies. Ken and Chun's entire zoning game is pretty much revolved around low MK > Super

I've only really been playing Akuma so far, eventually I'll get around to working Makoto and Ryu (Denjin onry) back up

Alex is fun as hell to play with. A nice mix of being a charge/grappler style character who doesn't necessarily rely to heavily on combos. Nice character to begin with IMO.

How big is the download by the way? For 360.

    ~700 for 360, ~620 for PS3

Ignoring the "upscaling adds lag" arguement, the game looks better on 360 as well due to the native upscaling to 1080p. PS3 version only goes to 720p

It's been along time since anyone has played this seriously I think, since it dropped out of the tournament scene.

Given this is probably by far the most accessible version of 3S to date, do you figure it'd last a couple years at least in the tourney scene again?

Also, I am really, really, bad at this. Can't even beat arcade on normal difficulty without using multiple credits. Gill can kiss my ass, hate having to bait his super out so I can kill him without the ressurection bullshit.

I'm having fun though, slowly getting a better understanding of all of Ken's attacks and when to utilize them. Just wish I could link his j.HK to c.MK more reliably since I can go multiple ways with that setup.

3rd Strike OE will probably get a few GuardCrush/SeasonsBeatings appearances. Can't wait to hear Spooky/Hu on the mic talking 3rd Strike.

Also you can interrupt Gill's Resurrection with an EX or SA that moves you horizontally and hits high, the blowback won't kick in until after the first hit. There are other ways around it but those are probably the easiest to plan for.

Is Seth still sticking to his story about the PSN version having no input lag?

Fubarduck (who was crapping on PS3 version yesterday on stream) tweeted that:

"My verdict on 3SO: 360 timing offline feels very similar to arcade. PS3 on the same setup feels laggy. I think it's more than 1F. 360 FTW."

@fubarduck cool. debug tools showing < 16ms (worst case), but check yr email, and we shall blind it with science

    Like glue. < 16ms is < 1 frame @ 60fps. Ryan remained unconvinced.

3S will hopefully last until at least next year's Evo, though there are quite a few big name games coming out before then (SxT, Tag II, SC 5, VF5 FS), so we'll see

There's a point where I have to be skeptical about a human's ability to accurately perceive differences of 1/60th of a second with their eyeballs alone, but who knows
