Level LNC to 20 and get Feint if you are so concerned with Acc. problems. While tanking you get a -free- ability to spam, so even if GLA have greatly worse acc. than other classes (they don't) you are getting off many more than they are.

Surplus isn't any bad until Rank7-8 Surplus (somewhere around 150k XP for the week... Surplus Rank1 is 100k). I believe you could go to about 250k before it starts grinding to a halt though, I know at Rank7-8 I was still able to grind 6.2k per hour duo.

Yes, duo! Its probably the easiest way for GLA to level. All you do is pick out a CNJ or THM and go tank some mobs that are roughly 8-12 levels higher than you. (mobs that are mostly red solo, but have a few yellows or greens mixed in). I am able to grind about 8-9k per hour in a duo situation like this which is actually more than what I get in a 5-10 man group. Also trust me, your CNJ will love you (despite getting slower XP than you... it just ends up like that sadly... wish it was equal) but a ton more than whatever they were trying to solo for.

I still think GLA is the most powerful class, but to do so requires a very large amount of other classes abilities. I've watched a GLA with Feint, Cure2, Shock Spikes, and Protect solo a L34-39 mob at L20... which is just ridiculous because he had 0 problems with it. I know THM and CNJ can do similar things but not with the speed or ease GLA can do it once you have everything available at your disposal (tower shields are just a monstrous tool even before combining Obsess and Protect).

For solo grinding? Yeah probably. Because GLA is right now at the bottom of the barrel for everything else. Punishing Barbs alone takes care of guildleve soloing and a GLA is not only unecessary, but a deadweight in a good SP party if it tries to do its primary job (tanking).
Inability to AoE spells is a huge disadvantage when compared to mages with and without Firm Conviction and it's outclassed by every other DoW when it comes to physical damage.

Things will probably change when more content is added and half of THM's skills are inevitably hit by the nerf hammer, but right now GLA is pretty meh. Not terrible, but simply the game has no need for this class at this time.

Having grinded as lancer and gladiator, this hasn't been my experience. Lancer does it way faster for me, and this is not wasting stamina on guarding as Gladiator. Neither has any downtime because of stygian spikes + Cure II.

So I just want to be really clear on this and not feel like leveling Lancer is a waste...

On a scale of 1-10, 10 being "a metric fuckton" and 1 being "laughably", how much easier is it gonna get to rank up Gladiator with Feint? Please confirm!

Ok how about some tips for max SP gain on gla29.

I am solo grinding blue/green and getting 30-120max per mob. Is this about right?

Any advice for equip to help SP gain?

If you provoke a mob, before anyone or urself hits it, is that first voke not working correct? I ask cuz people are saying nvr provoke before engaging...

The mob wont place you on its hate list until you have performed an action on it so as far as im aware the first action will give you no hate, it will simply make the monster aware of you. So essentially if you engage the mob with voke you are wasting one of your strong hate tools (If you do 1 fight duo where you pull with voke and one were you pull with a normal hit and then provoke, you will see the difference right away, assuming your duo partner is also hitting the mob)

Yeah, always provoke after everyone in the pty has had a chance at touching. Provoke seems to stick you at the top of the list for a period of time (while the status icon appears in the mobs status bar). if you start with provoke you are just ahead of yourself.

So I took a long break from gladiator after hitting 22 or so, and got lancer up towards 28. I think gladiator is much more exciting though, apart from the lag that frustrated me to no end. Lancer's not as much fun as drg was... I guess I was just a sucker for that vison-blocking rolling blue ball with wings. Anyways, I have questions. Lots.

When I was doing gladiator, people didn't really know how to set things up yet. Any good basic advice for stat distribution at this point beyond keeping your vitality up? Str/Dex even split, or less focus on one? Still ignoring mind?

No one was level 40+ when I started, obviously, so there was no good way to see what provoke 2/taunt 2 did. I know there are people at 50 now though. Can anyone fill me in on how those two traits work/if they're different from provoke 1/2? Does the amount of time the mob stays fixed on you increase? Do they differ by coming with more actual +enmity generation? Something else?

What are some should-have skills for solo grinding and, especially, party stuff? Like.... from levels 1-30 or so of the other jobs (if something beyond 30 would be absolutely wonderful, fill me in). A lot of stuff seems marginally useful, but it's hard to decide what's worth a slot or not without having used it myself.

What are good ways to hold hate in big party situations? Is spamming slow something you'd do? Or spikes or some aoe (although there are so many spots where aoe's are just bad)? Is guard > phalanx still the go to? Do the skill point mechanics mean we want something that wouldn't be ideal for hate, but just works well enough and allows us to get xp? I know in some other instance the system encourages less than ideal playing, for other jobs.

What shields do I want to look for. I see a lot of the big tower shields and lantern shields, in general. Any reason to go with one over the other? I think I remember the tower shields had lowish raise durations, but that was a long while ago, and I don't know the duration on lantern shields.

Any faction leve items that are particularly worth keeping a look out for? Is that vintage hoplon/dented celata worth grabbing whenever I can? I don't really know how the upgrade process works, although I think both can be made much better?

What are people using their jewelry slots on?

Lastly... any way to reduce the gladiator lag, or is that just something with the game we deal with for now? I don't know what does it, but it's not my pc or net - all the other jobs I've played run fine.

Sorry for all the questions. Wish I knew a good forum that was specific to gladiator stuff. Any tips appreciated though.

Take a look at some of the MRD and PGL abilities and traits. MRD gets an AoE taunt, Intimidation, disorient, Skull Sunder (strong 500tp ws) and PGL gives you another taunt, +10% healing trait, Discerning Eye and Accomplice (not sure how good those last too are, but they seem like good abilities to have judging from their descriptions). THM will give you access to Siphon MP (highly accurate 25-65mp per cast with chance of small sp gain), Firm Conviction (should it not be nerfed in the Nov update) a lower mp cure in Sacrifice(II), the absorb spells which are fairly good hate-mediocre accuracy though, and personal stygan spikes. CON will give you protect/shell (this is a must for solo), regular cure, fast cast.

What are good ways to hold hate in big party situations? Is spamming slow something you'd do? Or spikes or some aoe (although there are so many spots where aoe's are just bad)? Provoke and Taunt are your best skills and never miss. Phalanx, Heavy slash, and disorient I also use whenever I can but can miss. Absorbs are last ditch effort.

What shields do I want to look for. I see a lot of the big tower shields and lantern shields, in general. Any reason to go with one over the other? I think I remember the tower shields had lowish raise durations, but that was a long while ago, and I don't know the duration on lantern shields.

Tower shields will reduce the most damage. Lantern shields have +att on them. I honestly don't see a reason to use any other shield than those two, tower for tank, lantern if you're just dd'ing.

Any faction leve items that are particularly worth keeping a look out for? Is that vintage hoplon/dented celata worth grabbing whenever I can? I don't really know how the upgrade process works, although I think both can be made much better?
I'm looking out for Rusting Scutum and Ripped Hauby. Celata might be good to pick up, but not worth the points for me.
I've heard rumors that the vintage armor increases your stamina regeneration but I have yet to see any evidence whatsoever to confirm.

What are people using their jewelry slots on?

Brass rings and choker, copper wristlet. I don't think accessories make a real impact and these are easy to repair on my own.

Lastly... any way to reduce the gladiator lag, or is that just something with the game we deal with for now? I don't know what does it, but it's not my pc or net - all the other jobs I've played run fine.

    "Reading Guard"
    "X is defeated"
    "Entering Passive mode"
    "Entering Active Mode"
    "You Raise Your Shield".........
    No, nothing you can do.

I can't emphasize enough how powerful Feint is. It is the most efficient weaponskill in the game in terms of damage/TP and damage/stamina. It also greatly mitigates any accuracy issues you might have.

Other than that, make sure that any weaponskills you're using are also ones that apply a debuff. Skull Sunder and Trammel are the best among them.

I can't speak only for Gla (mine is only 24) but feint has made soloing 100x easier on all my jobs. For SP it is "ok" and doesn't seem to procure skill points more than about 20% of the time. But for soloing and low level jobs it is indeed a game breaker. I can't recommend enough for everyone to get this ability.

The good thing about this update is that our shield levels will finally catch our sword skills. Went from 19 to 20 in no time.
