Same kind = lower chance.
It's why when you see 5x T1 melded achievement/trophy pieces they always have a random smattering of different materia types.

Haha, well, your mileage is going to vary, but on average, over at least a hundred double meld attempts either done by or for me, the cost works out to 600k-1.5m per double depending on the cost of the materia and base item, 2m+ for the exorbitant stuff like Lightning Materia on Mahogany Pattens.
I've found that farming/buying +1 mats isn't really feasible because you end up hemorrhaging five to ten times the gil for the base item, but if you can HQ off NQ mats, yeah, it's certainly worth it.
Isn't HQ off NQ mats nearly impossible now?
Pushing for Quality as hard as you can with all NQ materials will probably end you up with a 5~7% HQ rate. Possible, but unlikely.
You can get higher than that if you're doing something well over your level. Maybe closer to. 20-30% with some serious luck.
EDIT: Nvm there is a RQT thread. I just suck at reading and only read to the speculation part. Posting there instead.
If cap is assumed to be at 335pie and 300dex based on the testing of Seiken: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...IE-ATK-Testing
Then hitting those caps is not hard:
if you ignore the DL boots and use AF you loose 10 pie so were atMy set is:
Paragon's Crown
Raptorskin Harness (x2 PIE) / Choral Shirt for Ballad
Fingerless Raptorskin Gloves of Slaying (x2 STR/x1 ATK, same gloves I use for other physical DPS jobs)
Flame Sergeant's Sash
Choral Tights
Darklight Boots
Explorer's Earrings
Electrum Gorget +1
Spinel Bracelets +1
Tourmaline Ring +1
Spinel Ring +1
=>294 DEX, 333 PIE
294dex, 323 pie
now replace the gloves with dex double meld on felt bracers(5acc/3pie) I'll even go conservative with 12dex>16dex double meld (about 26% rate)
and swap in a 2nd Tourmaline Ring +1 and tourmaline bracelet+1 gives you
(+22pie/-22dex)-accessories
(+28dex/+3pie)-gloves
=>300dex, 348pie
even swapping in AF body full time you still get
(-32pie/-6dex)harness(double pie IV's?)
(10pie/7dex)
=>301dex, 326pie
Having DL Boots allows you to full time the AF body and legs while still being capped at: 301dex, 336pie or allows you to swap in some extra STR/ATK in the gloves and adjust the rest accordingly.
I don't think a 3>4 dex glove and near full AF is hard to do.
Don't forget about food. Jerked beef is PIE+7.
No arguments about DL, considering how many runs we've done and how few pieces we've gotten overall.
But regarding Paragon's Crown, I don't think it's far-fetched for anyone who's been playing since 1.18 to have it, especially considering that leveling seems to get progressively easier with each patch leading up to 2.0.
Hey just looking for some feedback about my bard* right now, 302 dex 337 piety no darklight yet.. just had the hq rings crafted 1/1 each thank god was outrageously expensive, where do I go from here? start mixing in attack power when I get some darklight to replace af feet? also 3 levels on pug away from the all DoW class50 crown so that will free up some room
Spoiler: show
Yeah, once you get to stat caps, ATK all the way.
Also I find using arrows helps my damage immensely.
Spoiler: show
But on a serious note: unless you're having ACC problems an electrum gorget will do you better than explorer's.
well I never had the parser until today, how much acc is enough for CC/AV/moogle barding? I've not done garuda
Is garuda's spine as bad as it looks? also someone on the OF is saying pie cap is 350? (I assume he's talking about ifrit's bow) wrong or what
I've been going off:
UPDATE Patch 1.21: Tested on R52, new WS caps with Ifrit's Bow are DEX 295-300 and PIE 330-335. Both affect WS damage now, but cap really early with light shot.
Seiken's post
I'm no pro Archer, but surely being able to shoot arrows almost 40% faster is worth something (Garuda's Bow is the fastest shooter in the west game).
Mooglebox calculates the DPS for bows incorrectly, so ignoring the added effects, it's actually a DPS of Garuda(40.97) vs Ifrit(36.74). Ifrit probably still wins because it does higher WS/Barrage damage, has the +atk on it, and because speed only helps for when you're spamming light shot.
I thought the lower TP gained rendered the DD Garuda weapons as something only to pokeman. Is this not the case with the bow and the lower delay is actually worthwhile on ARC/BRD?
Oh man, I had never really looked into to it because I never really had a reason to... but delay determines TP per-hit again? Booo~
Here's the thread I first noticed it in***:
Standarization of WS Damage Across All Delays
Thread isn't about delay entirely, but where I first saw it crop up that the TP gain was different.
