I'm sure he does receive financial aid (he made another thread about this a while ago.) So yeah, pretty much not gonna get food stamps. I completely agree with how quizzical it is to deny food stamps to people who are trying to better their lives and thus simply don't have the time to afford a steady job. They denied me food stamps when I was 34% below the poverty line because I was a student and could only work part time.

    # Work Rules - Healthy adults, 18 to 50 years of age, who do not have dependent children or are not pregnant, can only get food stamp benefits for 3 months in a 3-year period, if they are not working or participating in a work or workfare program.
    Pretty much that part

Gotta love the irony. If he's getting financial aid for school to try and better his life, they won't help him, but if he sat home and jerked off all day and did nothing, they'd probably give him some money.

    Edit: Fucking Mojo.

Something besides ramen once in a while would be nice. Dry ramen at that if my utilities are off when I get back next week.

The "Work Rules" you quoted shouldn't work against you. They may actually put you into a workfare-type program that normally requires a minimal monthly attendance. If you can handle that, it'll get you food stamps.

This may actually not disqualify you, since it's a Pell Grant. I really would recommend making a case worker appointment. The worst they can say is "no," and you'll have wasted a day, but you might be able to get something.

The letter from your uncle, if you decide to go through with it, can be written by you; he just has to genuinely agree with and sign it (and you must supply the office with the original, not a copy, so faxing or E-Mailing is out of the question). So, you'll want it to read like he's saying he's letting you live in his place while he's out of the country, but that he doesn't give you any money for food or anything else, just shelter.

At this point, it's up to you whether you want to try anyway or not. You may also have the good fortune of getting someone informative on the phone when you try to call and schedule the appointment itself, and you may not even need to go in (though I'd usually suggest doing so anyway).

Curious why not get a part time job at a retail store, restaurant, grocery store, anything? Is the job market that bad down there?

    This thread seems awfully familiar.

It's a pain in the ass to get into a permanent food stamp program in Florida unless you have a bunch of children and are really fucking poor. Good luck though.

My advice would be to punch out a couple kids. Consider it a long term investment if you're planning on living off of the government.

made a thread, not directly related to this one a while ago. Since most job apps and things of that nature ask if you've received food stamps before, I asked that if I got them, if it would count against me or something, but didn't ask anything on eligibility

Pretty much this. I worked at a local Outback and got free food / discounts on top of hourly pay and a good amount of tips during the evenings. Your class schedule doesn't seem that bad tbh.

Try applying at places for weekend work, a lot of restaurants as well as some fast food places will hire people for just weekend work when they tend to be the busiest. I'd say just go to pick up a bunch of applications from different places and under availability section if they have it, fill in weekends only due to school. Lots of places like to hire students because they don't require as many hours and they can pay them cheaper than people out of school looking for full time work.

I don't live too far from you, there is plenty of work available.

Every day i read the tampa bay times and there's an article in there from some HR recruiting department or something saying that the problem isn't jobs not available it's that people don't even fill out the applications right. Don't include references or a resume even if it's not an impressive one it at least shows you have some care for what you're doing. Don't answer all of the questions on the application or bother to dress nicely for the interview if they do get it.

Show some pride and earn your keep.

Open up the newspaper and you'll see a shitload of jobs that you can do part time to make some cash.

Stop being lazy and looking for the easy way to let hardworking taxpayers support you.

Just get a job and work through college, it will build a lot more character than collecting food stamps and playing FFXI. I mean, at one point during my college career, I was working 3 jobs, 30hr/wk retail, 20hr/wk pizza delivery and whatever shifts I could pick up as a stagehand (Usually 20~30 hours a month, but it was random). The kicker? Not only did I have a full ride, but they actually paid me $2000 bucks a semester to go to school.

Food stamps and similar programs are supposed to be a helping hand for the needy. Something for people to use to get back on their feet. Now this system is very flawed and easily abused, but do you honestly feel like you need food stamps? If the only reason you can't work is:

And no, that's not the only reason lol.

When I was sitting February through april last this year, with no electricity or water in my home, filling out apps every day omw to and from school and not as much of getting a call back or a sorry check back later when I would call to check up on them, yea it don't really work out well, lol.

Stopped in April filling apps since my grandma let me come live up here for the summer, headed back in about 2 weeks, lol same shit. and with no power, I played ffxi like once a week at the library w/ my laptop. Rest was school, homework and filling apps, lol. Idk if it's just plain shitty luck, lack of experience, huge gap in work (last time I worked was 2006), availability etc, but shit I couldn't even get a reply for nothin, lol
