There's a will there's a way. As soon as the opportunity for reward exceeds the risk of being caught, it's not if but when it's gonna happen. I am sure after a decade, there are many disgruntled souls that will do just anything to end this travesty of a war, leaking intell that shines a negative light on the stats quo is just because it's probably the only way they know how to do it, swaying populist opinion and ending the war politically.

Fact is I don't think the government should have 'secrets' like this under any circumstances. the fact that they do shows that we aren't as free as we're lead to believe.

Don't get me wrong. Nuclear codes and shit like that can be superduper top secret but the fact that our government is filtering the news we consume is terrifying.
I don't think you're getting what I'm saying, if our security methods were actually operating in the way they were supposed to, this stuff shouldn't be getting out there to begin with. Call that what you want, but it's how our system is supposed to work. If there's one hole in our system this big, it doesn't bode well for legitimate security concerns that actually affect the safety of troops and civilians.

I think the most important thing about this what it reveals about the war and how much the governments involved have been lying, rather than what might have could have happend have if some nasty guy leaked info that could have maybe have killed our troops or caused 9/11 part 2 maybe.

We're supposed to have security screenings and background checks to avoid stuff like this. Failings of our system or whatever you want to call it.

So you're saying if security had been working properly, this wouldn't have happened? Thank goodness security isn't working properly then.

Are you sure you're not concern trolling?

There should be more transparency in the government, not gonna argue that.

hypothetically speaking, the only damage these reports bring is the image of said military involved by their supporting countries.

Afghan people are already aware of everything said.

Can I predict that somewhere along the line is this thread someone will use the argument:

"You're naive if you think the government doesn't do this. I don't know what the big deal is."

I think krandor's argument is there should be more transparency, but the things that are deemed secrets shouldn't get out so easily.

Its not hard to understand a whistle blowers reasoning lol. I mean come on, if you were in a situation and saw shit like this go down as often as it does, had an opportunity to do something about it, you wouldn't? I sure as fuck would.

What security hole are you talking about? The hole that people with access to information and a soul can mail an anonymous letter to a specific location? Or just drop it off somewhere? lol, there is no preventing that, unless you intend 24/7 surveillance on all military personnel.

You obviously don't know how handling of classified materials is supposed to work.

Weird, I had just watched an episode of Bones that was exactly about this type of shit. An accidental civilian slaughter + friendly fire incident covered up as insurgents killing a soldier.

I wanna attach this prediction to someone in particular with a caveat.

    Therin

He will also argue that this is a horrible thing because it puts our troops in danger somehow.

But of course he will deny it now that I've exposed him thus proving that I was right all along. I can't lose.

How do you possibly screen out and background check for whatever it is we are talking about? People see a bus with kids get shot up, it haunts some people. Keep on seeing things like that being covered up, eventually enough is enough. When I say conflicting ideology, I mean having the belief that human lives are valuable. There is no screening for any of this lol.

You have a delusional reverence for the "system." Can't say I'm surprised, its the same for every military man I've met.

I was just kind of throwing that as an aside, to be fair Secret level clearance is almost negligible. You can read other posts I've made over this forum to get an idea of stupid shit I've done in my past, and I deal with it on a daily basis.

Besides, military shit isn't even secret anymore. You want secrets, try finding out IMF policies or Fed Reserve structure. Not even congress has access to that.

The Pentagon's criminal investigations department continues to try to trace the leaks and recently unsuccessfully asked Assange, he says, to meet them outside the US to help them.
picked this up from reddit. Assange, it's a trap, watch out!
