    XI on PS3?

It's probably been covered and Google ain't giving me anything amazing but figured wth I'd ask the community who would obviously know.

I was wanting to throw XI on my PS3 for a bazaar mule. Yes, I could use my PC but I usually turn it off during the day when I go to work.

The PS3 is an 80GB model which I do not think has backwards compatibility. From all my quick research the answers seems I am out of luck.

What say you my BG Tech forum friends!?

Does your 80 have 2 or 4 USB ports on the front? iirc the 4 port ones are BC, but it's been a while since I've been asked.

Just a side info (might find useful) , it works with my 60GB version of PS3.

That's because the 60GB models are fully backwards compatible.

Pretty much if it isn't BC then you can't play FFXI. If it is you can.

I wouldn't recommend doing this even if you did have a BC PS3. I ruined mine (YLOD) when leaving it on over night for about 3 days a week. Granted it was over the course of a year, but if you planned to leave it on more than I did, your PS3's lifespan could be far shorter.

What I was going to say. Have lots of friends who used to use their ps3's for mules and ended up killing them.

FFXI is the slayer of ps2/3's alike.

Yeah... I thought about that too. I think that's what burnt the 360 up back in the day tbh..

I guess I should just man up and let the PC run all day. Lord knows it's built to withstand never being turned off after investing over $3,000 total into it since I began building it. I just hate leaving it on when I ain't around - Makes me nervous, haha...

FFXI can run on pretty old or low end hardware, even if at terrible resolutions. Since it's for a mule, it shouldn't matter as long as it stays on and doesn't crash.

Could try a cheap nettop or netbook - low cost, low power usage for something always on, can set up for use without a display or keyboard/etc (remote desktop), and be a network drive/torrent box/whatever else as well. Game will run/look like crap on it but you only need it to stand there. Has more potential uses when not a mule box than a used ps2+hdd as well as not dealing with potentially killing a 360 or older ps3 just for muling.

    One idea anyway.
