Yo seriously, both of you drop that stupid argument already. Shit is getting old.

Should they have another jogging animation just for the sake of change? Just switch things up for no reason at all, just so someone can say "Wow, totally different jog, this game is so different!"? I'd rather they didn't, and worked on things that had a little higher priority.
I'd think that some people run - faster - with weapons drawn. Pirates, Vikings, Scotsmen - you know, the typical bloodthirsty marauder types.
Of course, everyone is so pretty in this game that yeah, I don't think those types exist in this world. Even the scarred-up scalawags in the CSes all have that confident, attractive look to em.
Not that I want to see some ugly fallout-rendered models, but it would be hilarious to have a maurader skill that dramatically increases speed while having a weapon out.
@Achitophel: they did it with Mithra, Lalafel, female Hyur, Roghadeen, and others. I'd use a different line of thinking than your current one, since it doesn't really hold water. Also, work on things with a higher priority? They mo-capped the animations during development. All issues had high priority during the development phase.
It still holds water, it's just a pointless change. No reason to lobby for more of them.
the its not real life argument has merit, but at the same time you dont throw out everything in a fantasy world.
the reason i bring real life is to show its not the norm, so it shouldnt be automatically expected. All im saying is, you want it because you specifically think it would be cool, and because it would make it easier to run away. thing im sayin is, the whether its cool or not is subjective, and im pretty sure they wanted running away to be slightly harder, lets be honest, so far its pretty easy to run away most of the time, the only real risk is when you re going from active to passive. Sheathed running speed is faster than just about every mob that would chase you. And i dont think its a bad idea to have some slight risk in battle.
I'm not lobbying for any of them at this point in development. It just would have been nice to see brand new animations across the board for a supposedly brand new game. Across the board, not in certain areas.
Its over and done with now, but it "would" have been nice.
@omegaB: I don't think it'll be hard to get away at all once the keyboard/mouse controls are tightened. We can all check that out tonight. Initially it was a pain, but that was initially; you learn to get used to stuff like that. I speak more of running speed for engaging, not retreating. Jogging to a foe just looks funky. That's all. There's no dramatic explanation or anything to it. It just. looks. funky.
Can people just stop trying to apply REALISTICAL explanations for a fantasy game? For example, why do some try justify the the stopping to draw weapon to real-life, yet they just overlook the fact that you can magically fatal wounds within a couple of seconds. When people complain about something in games, they usually do it from a game design p.o.v., so when you want to argue your own views, do so with that in mind.
I haven't played XIV but I've seen a lot of video, and I have to say, all of the animations look different to me. I mean, they featured a motion cap demo on Youtube. What animations are the same as XI? Not trying to argue, I just would like some background on your statement...

@25s, totally in run mode when he whips out his GKT and kills a dude! It can be done!
Would make sense, however they use Mocap (Motion Capturing) for animations this time around, so outside of that the only explanation is that there's an inherit delay with active/passive mode.
That's it since it doesn't take into consideration what weapon you're using yet in terms of stamina usage/building.
Everyone needs to seed D2010.08.04.2000 and H2010.08.10.2000
Just sayin'![]()
actually almost everyone in that fight scene whips out their weapon before they run, and the main dude takes 3 steps and slows and pulls out his weapon (not really a dead run) and cuts someone soooo i dunno man, seem to be proving the opposite lol.
far as using realism in a fantastic setting, its kind of required for telling good stories, you basically have to set up what is fantastic, and what is real. one could say this is a fantasy game, why cant i just fly everywhere with magic, or swim in the air.
Unless pulling out the weapon while running is being presented as supernatural it needs to have the appearence of reality. If charachters ran and their swords teleported to their hands via magic then it would be totally logical. That said, i dont bring realism to say that it shouldnt be possible, i just bring it up to say, you shouldnt expect something unrealistic to be the norm, or standard way of doing something. they could very well make it so you could draw weapons at full speed, but it shouldnt be a assumed that it should be the case.
Also you have to remember a lot of people like the battle and what not to be semi realstic, they like to see real katas, and motions from the martial arts, i have known many people angry that rapiers shared the same animations as regular swords in some games, its a subjective thing whether one is better visually or not.
Who gives a fuck about realism? Nobody gives a fuck about realism if it makes shit suck. Go fuck yourself.
I don't mind it, just used to 11 I guess.
Seems there's yet another new small patch.
