You could switch to wasd movement in FFXI, so i'm 100% sure that it'll be in FFXIV, especially since its become the standard movement keys for 99% of games now.
Can they just make it ctrl + L for linkshell chat, Ctrl + p for party chat, ctrl + t for /tells, etc like in XI?
Its only the standard movement keys for games because the standard is actually wasd + mouse. Until they fix the mouse in XIV for play like those games, then wasd is actually hampering play (unless you are left handed). It would be nice if we got a "keyboard+mouse" control scheme option. I honestly do not think it would be that difficult to set up a different type of control scheme for that vs "game controller". But right now we are stuck in the realm of game controller controls or XI like kb only controls. Now if only they changed the damn camera controls back to the arrow keys...
Even if their "new mouse friendly" control scheme is what we all hope, wasd may just not be what people want in XIV. Everygame is different.
The macro things have me worried. I hope it's just a stopgap measure but--
there's no reason a modern MMO should have manually typing out equipment etc. I'm sure everyone who's played FFXI remembers how annoying it was sometimes figuring out the right thing to type for equipment, sometimes they were arcane abbreviations etc. SE should take a page from Blizz and look at how they set up their equipment manager.
The ability to set actionbars with macros in P3 is going to be nice but again, this is way too cumbersome than it should be. Why can't we save a default actionbar for each class, or just simply have it remember what the last actionbar set was before we switch jobs?
You can say I'm arguing for retard-friendly game design if you want, but I'm just troubled that the developers seem lacking in intuition of basic user-friendliness that helps make a game well-regarded.
inb4 I'm sure they'll fix it for final release.
what bothered me more was the typing limit still exists from ffxi, i can barely get a whole sentence off while typing before i realise i have to press enter and then start again
Or how about doing what every other half decent computer game in the last 10 years has done and just let the user re-bind all the keys to whatever they feel most comfortable with. Problem solved.
If I play FFXIV with WASD+Mouse I want to bind major abilities to QERFC & my extra mouse buttons.
If after the mouse changes tonight, mouse control still sucks and I play the game with WASD+IJKL then I want to bind major abilities to QERFC & OUYHN.
I remember going back to FFXI a few months ago after years of playing WoW. I was was one of those people who was constantly jumping where ever I went. When i started back up in FFXI I kept running around the world hitting space bar to jump around and opening chat instead bringing me to a halt. This prompted me to download and install Windower so I could re-bind my keys and put an end to that.
I don't want to have to use a 3rd party program like AutoHotKey to re-bind everything in FFXIV.![]()
I completely agree. SE has a history of being stubborn on how they feel people should control their games though. I mean there was a reason why the original Windower was created after all.
I would have actually thought that SE would have seen what Spellcast did for typed abilities and such and made their new text command system to mimic it. Everything is in its initial phases so who knows what we will see.

On a separate note...
Taken from the Aetheryte section of the revised manual. No more Aetheryte hugging. The second part kind of sucks for the harder Guildleves and Behest, especially while doing them as Thaumaturge and Conjurer.1. Restore all HP and MP (as long as you are not fighting a monster or bound by duty).
I thought it was kinda weird that a game released in 2010 didn't have something basic like the ability to rebind keys. Now that I know nobody cares and I was the only person on this planet who wanted something like this it makes more sense that they didn't waste development time on it.
Thank you sir for the information!

Some people think beta is more than an extended free trial. Shocking, I know!
Edit: Disregard that, I suck cocks. SE is the big daddy who knows best how we want to play this game. They've shown an uncanny grasp for usability with things such as their superior mouse controls.
Nobody cares what I want either, don't feel bad.
