I only see 400-500 people on at one time on my server. There were about 750ish the day after these server problems got fixed, which was the most I've seen on at one time.

Wouldn't it be hard to have a open beta when there's only one area available though? I mean, the numbers we see right now on the servers seem like alot already for one starting area judging by how problematic it seem to level through the early levels now. I haven't gone back to Bearded Rock yet myself but everytime I pass through there's people eveywhere.
wahoo servers up :D
13006 ; ;
OB would be probably good for the lobby server stress testing- but as we witnessed already, they'll just throw more money at it if it becomes a problem.
I figure all the different regions work "independently" although they operate in the same "world".
I guess problems could arise from how the regions correlate with each other or something, I dunno. They could test this by opening the next region above La Noscea though, no need for OB.
Even areas inside the regions seem to work differently though. Like they took down bearded rock on some server few days ago iirc? And lag seems to become less of a problem the farther you are from LL or bearded rock, so the server is not a single entity.
Well....yeah. That's a beta. The things you said you liked were more important for a game, not this beta content stuff. I mean, if the game comes out and there's only one town, one zone, and 8 missions then sure, you had a valid complaint. That's probably not the case though, so...
The surplus shit isn't fixed.. First mob: 57 skill points, 120 surplus skill points. Fuck yes.
Yeah, I wouldn't worry about content. I'm sure once the game comes out, we'll see a proper story and some missions sort of like with FFXI. Not to say it'll be the same system (even if I did sort of like that system in XI), but I'm pretty darned sure it'll be more content than "1 town, 8 quests, final destination, fox only" or whatever.
As far as a need for an OB or not... I mean I'm just saying. It's better to be prepared for mass attempts to log in than waiting for release and having an Aion situation. I'm always amazed at how often these big MMO companies aren't prepared with their product that we as consumers pay to use. I'm assuming FFXIV is going to have a ton of subscribers, at least at the start, so wouldn't it be best to maybe set it up where there's a ton in one area, and in another like LL so that they can test everything that way? I'm talking thousands playing per server and what not, not just 500-600 per. Just a thought.
There was no update was there? Yeah, no fixes in that case.
I think they are imitating the server load in one area if this was the retail version. 600~1k players in one region sounds about right, if not slightly low.As far as a need for an OB or not... But as far as being prepared goes, I think most companies just want to be cheap. They don't want to throw more money at the servers and later realize they could have managed with a lot less.
Oh yeah, makes sense. Too bad =/
bleh , if shock spikes kills the mob, we don't gain any xp .
Just saw a Yellowjacket disappear at Camp Bloodshore at 11:14 (GMT+2) and I remember someone mentioning them popping at :40. Could it be that they show themself every 30 minutes and if no one attempt the Behest within 4ish minutes they'll disappear again?
edit: They listed some more known issues. Atleast it's confirmed by SE now.

- A player may be unable to obtain skill points after a battle has ended, even though the logs state that the player has.
* If this occurs, please log out and then back in.
- A player may be unable to obtain experience points and skill points when an enemy is defeated with a damage over time ability or by countering an attack.
i wasnt complaining, i was answering whether we think the game will be fun or not.
Anyhow my issue isnt with content, iom sure it will be there, im more concerned with how well it will be integrated in the game. Like, in some games you progress through the story, or the exploration of areas naturally without seeming to have to grind (ie sit and exp for no other reason than to gain levels) now this isnt the model of most mmo, but they do have varying levels of involvement, every mmo tackles it differently, but at this point we have very little idea how ffxiv will tackle that.
grinding is all fine 1-12 but after that you definately feel like your doing something soley for the purpose of gaining exp. Basically everything that we are not seeing now will decide the game, like i said the basic systems are good ground work in theory
Is there any way to fix the skill gains on mobs?, i've noticed after relogging it only works for 1-2 mobs if im lucky.
You gotta wait for SE to fix durability.
I might be an exception but I tough that Square did it perfectly with FFXI. You could go and grind your way up without doing any of the missions/quests and yet you could do the first 3 ranks (mission) with friends early on.
I think it might be the best way to advance a story. You give the player the decision on how they want to experience the story.
