FFXIV Random Speculation/Question thread V: No one told me beta would have problems in it

good morning(for me anyway)
yeah lady bugs and fireflies and something else give fire crystals

i was able to attempt to repair storm axe(lv16) at 8 smithing but failed like 4 times in a row and wasted 8 nuggets so i leveled smithing up to 10 and succeeded with repair on my 3rd try.
I find mining a lot of fun since you can actually level it up. I found the lv10 mining leves easier at level 10 than level 8 fwiw. Perhaps your axe hits take less off of that remainder bar when you are higher level?

This system really lends itself well to farming mats and synthing since never during the time of mining for ore, farming for crystals, or even the synth itself do you feel like you're wasting time just to get an end result. The whole time you are gaining skills and physical level exp. This is much more fun than ff11 imo.

Will crystals drop even when I am higher level? Can anyone give me a good firefly spot?

Yep, I get mine from botany and mining...I never could find fireflies..I did find ladybugs which rocked me >.>

Has anyone figured out this surplus skill thing?

I've been getting lots of hand to hand skill points, but I just noticed this message:

"Your surplus hand-to-hand skill rank is now 15".

Could it have something to do with your 2nd hand?

i dnt know if this is the place, but have they talked about any Thief-like job ?
and im not sure i understand the jobs system, is it going to be like how FFXI is Main/Sub?

Me too, so I am going to repeat a comment I made before: It's not guaranteed that there's anything actually broken about this "surplus" - it could be a mechanic implemented by S-E as a way to measure how their skill progression system is working out. That would make sense in programming terms as an easy way to code an assessment tool without writing really complex code.

Remember they have said that there are multiple skill progression systems they want to test.

Randomly.. the lv30 archer ability is zomg rape... over 1200 damage in 1 shot (on weak pharoflies anyway)

you get a from behind, but its a small boost, lnc supposedly gets both overrun and somethin else

THF as a job was dissolved and its abilities were spread across several classes instead of making a thief or rogue class. Pugilist gets steal and sneak attack, Lancer got trick attack, Archer gets flee, and Gladiators get daggers.

Best bet being a THF in the tradition sense is to be a gladiator equip a dagger then set all the thief like abilities from all the classes.
