@Lucavi; is that directional only?
@Lucavi; is that directional only?
Nah - no matter where you fire it from, it always counts as hitting from the rear. Sometime it only does damage, and sometimes it outright breaks the legs, but it always targets just the legs.
Uhhh death doesn't cost me anything to teleport, I have kept track cause I'm generally low, and I die often.
In regards to pug having better gear than release, pretty sure they can wear light armor like chainmail, back in alpha they could only not wear heavy which curiously glad could not wear either. This of course may change. Btw glad can parry as well so unless sword has a really low parry rate they should still be better than pug except for evasion up skills.
Skewer II doesn't crash you? It just crashed my entire PT of 14 people. We were killing the fallen undead things at South Bloodshore.
Doesn't crash me in the slightest. I haven't crashed in nearly a week - maybe over a week. I do have to log every now and then, though, to reset my points and durability.
@Kuya: We spent about an hour and a half fighting these guys. It's beta; shit doesn't work properly, so I'm not taking much away from it other than the fact that it's nice to be able to inflict "status effects" on certain mobs without having to cast magic. Leg sweep only stuns - its the EXACT same thing as leg sweep in FFXI, outside of it doing slightly more damage in FFXIV.
I'll say it again: regardless of the position I used Skewer II from, the results always listed the damage as targeting the opponents legs, and always from the rear. Regardless of whether I was actually behind the target or not, it always listed the same results. The only time it made no mention of legs or from the rear was when I missed the WS; it was during those times where it actually specified exactly where I was attacking from.
There were 2 results when the WS hit: it either simply dealt damage to the opponent's legs from the rear, or it dealt damage and resulted in crippling the legs. At this time, there is no special animations for crippled legs - no hobbling or anything - they simply run slower, just like when someone is hit by gravity in FFXI. It lasts for the entire duration of the fight, and as none of them had any access to magic, I don't know if the results can be healed or otherwise remedied.
Also, we noticed a few new high level abilities. Lancer apparently has a "full thrust", which dealt heavy damage to myself and Kuro, yet shared the same normal attack animations. This is leading me to believe that lancer might in fact get a third "standard" attack, to compliment light and heavy thrust. I'll have results for this when I eventually take my Lancer to 30. Perhaps it ignores defense or something (which would be hella nice), but I'll have to find out in about 2 weeks when I finally finish off Lancer.
The archer-type humans had wide volley, which archers may already have - I don't know, because I never see archers. It hits in a frontal cone, and actually launches a volley of what looked like pink/purple arrows. It looks VERY similar to the new volley ability that the Vykrul archers had in Icecrown Citadel (in WoW; don't ban me), and shared the same type of effect.
Glads look to get some sort of new stab - I forget the name, but it was "Rage of something". The sword tip glows a bright green/white and from then on, it just looks like a normal thrust, but the shit hurts - I think it hit Kuro though his shield block for like 180. It dropped him once, as well. There's also Red Lotus Blade II, but we already knew that was confirmed.
If you guys want to find/fight these guys yourselves and do your own testing, go to cedarwood and head northwest until you find that huge depression/cave about 30 seconds NW, near all the flies/scavengers. Just follow the tunnel down and you'll see a pack of 3 humanoids. The first one will respawn very quickly, as it seems like they're set to actually have 4 people down there, but there are only 3. Once you kill the initial "4", their respawns are very slow. They drop sunflower seeds, rope, and what looks like an animal block of glue, like the Goblins dropped in FFXI. They also drop a pittance of gil - between 20-25.
I saw luminous spire done by the bloodshore thieves when we up the rank to 4 star
Freaking awsome looking jump with the sword into a forward flip slashing downward.
duno what level it can be but there is a possibility that it can be over 30, hope not though. i saw glad had it on at e3 but those were level 40 for the demos
Yes i am also liking the WSs having status effects, and i hope they continue this trend and make most WSs have useful status effects, and even more elaborate ones. It adds a tactical aspect to melee that was missing with most jobs in FFXI. Or at least with MNK anyway.
I've seen the Amateur Footpad archer mob in 'To Catch a Thief' use Heavy Shot, which I don't have, as well. Wide Volley, on the other hand, is actually supposed to be AoE, not Conal, at least according to the tooltip. AoE's not very large though, or possibly bugged, on Archer (no clue if it works properly on mobs though <_<).
Is there going to be an open beta or is it straight for release in september, time is running out
So did some leves with a group of like 10. They were leves that I could solo pretty easily on 2-3 stars (skull valley), and we were doing them on 5 so everything conned blue/green.
First leve I played normally, debuff debuff heal if needed and contribute damage. Got maybe 100 skill points from the entire thing since everything was so weak. For all the remaining leves, I did nothing but stand in front of the group and spam sacrifice on everybody regardless whether they needed it or not. 1000-1500 per leve >.>;
I feel so lost reading these discussions. Well, I feel pretty lost when I play, too, I guess.I don't know if it's just because I end up playing solo most of the time or what, or if I just force the lack of understanding on myself because I still don't get phys rank vs class rank...
Maybe it's just that I ended up on a server with few friends to play with, so I've been going solo most of the way and FFXI made me very very wary of accepting random invites. :/ But I also don't know like.. how the hell do I check what level someone else is to see if it's appropriate to be doing anything with them; or am I even in the right place for my level currently? And what on earth happens when I exchange guildleves?? Hehe.
Mostly rhetorical, obviously. I feel like I'm missing a lot.![]()
Best one I seen is with a sword called "shadow sickle" where the sword turns into a black scythe boomerang and splits into 3 flying around leaving a awesome trail of dark stuff.
also doomwave = awesome looking "tonberry everyone's grudge" stab... look O_o
Also if anyones wondering, skeletons drop ice crystals. Saw someone mention they were looking for those?
In alpha you used to be able to check people, but I don't think it's there any more. How that effects grouping? Ehhh not really much Exp for class is divided by number of people and is irrelvant to their level, so if your in a group and kill faster or better it's worth it. Class exp may change a lot, but right now it seems based on how much you do And mob level/hp or somethin like that, so if your people kill it before you do much you won't get much class points but it's hard to figure that out based on level.
Leves are good because they allow you to scale difficulty. Best techniques for parties, I think is to fight way more mobs at once, gather together for bffs and heals while in battle for skills and try to have only 2-3 people on a mob at once. This way it's a lil safer, skill up is about same, butbase exp is a lil better
