I think there is a reason to believe that's the case though, and it's not simply blind faith... can't deny I'm not concerned of course. But that shit is way worse than XI and looks and functions like crap. SE likes their visuals, the wouldn't give us an ugly UI~

I liked the separate equipment screen that alpha had. All they needed was a visual character model on the side and the ability to drag items into each slot to either compare or to outright equip them.

I never liked this beta one, and its so obvious that its just a placeholder, and a poor one at that.

Makes me wonder what actually happened in transition from Alpha to Beta... why are there 2 placeholders in the first place? Why did they change the areas you do guildleves in? There's a lot of weird things going on here. It's like there were 2 separate teams for the Alpha and Beta build that handled things a bit differently.

I hope the DVD explains some of these things.

It's typical game development. Nothing more nothing less.

Yeah the current equipment screen is obviously a placeholder that they threw together last minute. The icons aren't even lined up right. And no I don't believe its so that you can see your character as you make changes..

IMO.. there's a lot of unnecessary information that they can take out of the equip menu so I doesn't look all cluttered and take up so much of he screen. ;o

Now it's hard to say at this point what isn't a placeholder and what is..

I think it's safe to say all the new features that were implemented in Beta and the new features in phase 3 are not placeholders, but the rest of the game... well, phase 3 will be interesting. Or retail if they want to drive us mad first.

Yep it's very reminiscent of FFXI, for example you were able to see 2nd and 3rd party's TP/MP but SE ultimately hid it later because it clutters the tiny space in the party window, which later people deemed it a 'necessity' and someone made a plugin for windower to redisplay it.

I've been advocating that the alpha was a much older build for a while now (2009 build), and I personally think the current beta client is what they were working on before the alpha even launched.

Honestly, I can't see much of the feedback at all in the current client. I don't think they have made any changes at all to the game based on what feedback was given in any version we have seen yet. I think the next version will be as big a change as the alpha > beta was.

    Time will tell....

Has anyone noticed the char select screen runs at 60fps, and on that screen you can run with your character. It seems to run MUCH more fluid there then in the game. Can't wait for this to go to 60FPS..

The Alpha build looked pretty good during last year's GamesCom already, I don't think it required half a year's work to get it working (August > March).... Especially if it was a placeholder build they were just going to scrap anyway.

Actually iirc the Rapture build was around 2006ish which was what was displayed @ Gamescom. The GC display didn't even have a working magic system or battle system fully and they slappped together one for the Alpha we tested. They have builds ready to go like all good developers were, the only thing they're doing is giving us older builds to test to get feedback without having to overhaul the retail build which in that sense all they have to do is make tweaks and additions and it's good to go.

The main purpose was to stabilize the servers and gameplay.

Cliff Bleszinski, hit the E3 stage and revealed the final chapter of the Gears of War franchise. He has said in the past that the game will remain at a steady 30 frames per second (FPS) so that the designers could shove in as much detail as possible into each rendered frame.
So anyone think this might be SE's excuse as well?

Gear is an Xbox title. There is no excuse for a 30FPS cap on PC.

30fps cap on PC is most likely to keep it in line with the PS3 release and, as in XI, movement and other things are tied to the framerate.

Using the HD widescreen unlocker disc thing that came out on PS2 will cause XI to run at a higher framerate and also results in speedhack like effect.

my 8800 GTS from 2006 runs beta in 1920x1200 @ 30 fps... they can't seriously be thinking of keeping it at 30 fps only.

They were testing nvidia's 3d thingy at e3 right. Since you need to render twice as many frames for the same relative fluidity, you'd think they can flip a switch to turn it off without it being game-breaking. I dunno were they running twice as fast at e3?

What is needed is just screen refresh 110hz or more. refresh!=fps You can have like 5 fps, while keeping refresh at whatever it's set to. It will be locked at 30 fps on PS3 w/o 3d effect/vision.
I know this because i have that 3D "thingy".

edit: in other words, PS3 limitations says hello!
