FFXIV Random Speculation/Question thread V: No one told me beta would have problems in it

higher levle pugs its not that bad.

My lv 23 pug vs a Lv24 (and he had about 16 points of def higher then me, and 24 elemental resistances from his gear) was taking about 20 extra damage per hit average and 30-50 elemental damage from the elementals.

That and considering the lv30 ability is/was? some form of aggro transfer to the pug off someone else ability... it may be some form of tank... aka the "bear tank of ffxiv" or the MP sponge as we like to call it.. because it just won't die.. as long as you dump a crap load of MP to heal it >.>

I have 467 HP at Lv 23, at the rate its going should "have" been around 530 HP by lv30

That or it was a bug/some programmer error to give an ability like that, where if such an ability existed in ffxi, you could spike flail the group at will...! who needs to cure bomb, when you can just steal 100% the tanks threat at a press of a button >.>

Accomplice does exist in XI but it's not used to tank. THF uses Accomplice to remove hate from mages (usually the healer).
You could use it to tank ,assuming PUG can, but if you already have a tank around it's better not to and just stick with helping mage classes or equip something else completely.
By the way we may know the classes that will be there on release but they will add more in version updates anyway.
For Beta we'll just see crating/gathering but I'm happy with that.
I felt useless as Botanist harvesting all those ingredients that no one could use anyway.
Hopefully they'll fix Logging/Mining points.

I think when next phase rolls around I'm just gonna focus on one class and see how far I can get. If anything I'll do PUG and Blacksmith only to repair and get second wind.

Because the servers are fine. It might be a minute detail they'll announce on day of update like they do with XI but really the only error I run into is the DoL classes which they already said will end up crashing the game.

Just got Aegis Boon and I have a few thoughts on it. I know that some people say it may not be worth it because of the amount of stamina it takes and the amount of HP it heals, But actually it would be very useful and effective VS tougher mobs in party situations. It is not very effective on weaker solo mobs.

Aegis Boon takes 75% of your stamina bar to heal a portion of your HP when you block and last for about 15 seconds. Whats special compared to the other shield guard is that if you block an attack, it completely negates the damage no matter what and you recover a very large amount of HP.

I tested this on a Salamander.

The Salamander hits you for 278 points of damage.
You use Aegis Boon. You gain the effect of Aegis Boon.
The salamanders attack heals you for 102 HP. <-----Shield block
The salamanders attack heals you for 113 HP. <-----Shield block
You are no longer under the effect of Aegis Boon.
You use Punishing Barbs. You gain the effect of Punishing Barbs.
The salamanders attack hits you for 291 points of damage.
Counter! You hit the Salamander for 260p points of damage.
You ready your shield.
You partially block the Salamanders attack, taking 132 point of damage. <---Block without Aegis Boon
Counter!You hit the salamander for 232 points of damage.
Your shield arm falls.
The Salamanders attack hits you for 282 points of damage.
Counter!You hit the Salamander for 260 points of damage..
The Salamander defeats you.

Pretty much negates 2 attacks and recovers 100+ HP each time.

Side note: THM Punishing Barbs is OP. Notice how I did 752(20% of its HP) damage as I was dying. I think a whole party can equip Punishing Barbs and and just sacrifice themselves one buy one and take down an IT+++ mob in seconds.

That is overpowered, what level do you gain that move? Boon sounds good also not as good as barbs but if you can combine the two it would be pretty broken.
(Maybe now at least one mage class will stfu)

Boon is the level 10 shield skill, but shield skill levels quite slowly, so your would be rank 20+ before you got it I'd say.

If there are -any- changes to the character progression mechanics (which is likely), it makes sense to have testers start from scratch. If only for SE to be able to monitor their progression better. Not to mention the old characters data might become corrupted due to the changes anyway.

I'll be surprised if this is the only wipe, they are very common.

That's why I mapped out where no one really goes unless SE changes mob placement lol.

Also:

You usually have a character wipe once a week in a typical beta (that isn't a glorified demo labeled as a beta), that's why I did things other than grind because I always expected a wipe the next day lol. Welcome to a real beta

I expect a few wipes next phase because chances are they will be doing a lot more core adjustments since its down to 7ish weeks till release.

Since you put it that way Destinye, I suppose it makes sense. I never argued that this wasn't a real beta though. But wow man.. All these changes coming are much needed. Guildleve rewards vs mob strength!? Badass! Balancing?! About time.

This could very well make or break the game. I hope for the best.

Was hopping they might add them and just not stated they exists on the official web site. Phase 3 seems more like a content test then Phase 2 by the looks of it. Phase 2 was def the stress test.
