For sure, I've logged in solely to chat lol.

Does anyone else hate the battle music? It doesn't sound like a proper FF battle music.

    That poses an interesting question:

Do you think, if the airship docks serve as a short-ranged paid taxi service, do you think they'll do the whole separate zone while flying route, ala. FFXI, or will they do a persistent-world type deal where we never leave the zone and just fly over the trees, like flight paths?

I know that these airships look to be a LOT smaller than the airboat in FFXI, judging by screenshots and trailers, so I wouldn't mind seeing 5-10-seaters that allow us to just fly over the trees to the next area and still watch people below us fight.

    Ah, glorious speculations...

Edit: Korean MMOs are glorified chatrooms, Hyan. At least there's something nice to look at in FF's, and you can talk in museums, just not too loud!

@Questionable: Yes, I detest the battle music, and most of the music that we've heard so far. Gustaberg had far, far better music, and while I grew to loathe the solo battle music of vanilla FFXI, I loved the party music and dungeon music, so hearing this tales of destiny-sounding PS1 rock theme has me annoyed.

I guess that'll depend on how far they intend the airships to take you. They might have reserved airship travel for longer distances, and leave chocobos (or whatever ground/air mounts they plan on implementing) for intra-zone travel, or they might do teenier airships for shorter distances, and larger ones for inter-zone.

Hard to say without really knowing where the docks are at this point, I guess.

^ I'd guess like a WoW Flight Path since XIV isn't instanced in the XI sense. There are "zone lines" that you can [basically] see (and you will get stuck on a loading scene if you move between zones while dc'ing or if a zone crashes that you try to run into), but its seamless

Even if people don't like it, if SE changed it so battle music and world music doesn't restart everytime you switch between the two, it would go a long way to make the music less repetitive and annoying. It might even make me not switch it off after half an hour of playing.

At the moment if you keep going in and out of combat it's an endless drone of the first 20 secs of each. Not ideal because I honestly want to be able to enjoy playing with the music on.

I was trying not to mention Blizzard, but yes, flight paths were what I was referring to.

@Mundie: that's kind of what happened with ToAU, especially as people started super speed meriting. I loved the party battle theme, but only during the last 20 seconds of it, when it really started to heat up. Before they made that music change, you'd hear maybe the first 15 seconds, then it'd repeat, unless you had a roaming party that was mass pulling and you lined up properly so that you'd never exit battle mode.

This is just a beta though, so its possible they've implemented something as a fix for retail, but it would be a shame to see them take a step back on the music issue, especially with such an annoying opening riff to the battle theme.

I'll probably just end up keeping my altana view open so I can have my FFXI songs looping.

Least, at the very least, each xpac will have diff battle music for those areas. Maybe the area's surrounding each city will be diff & made to resonate w/ the main city of that area

Aren't there also suppose to be dungeon like instances in XIV or was that just for cut-scenes and the like.

Regarding battle music, did anyone notice there was a difference while fighting out in the open or down in Cassiopeia Hollow? Am I just crazy or were there two different ones..

There are some fights with different battle music, I recall entering combat with something and having a very different song for what you usually hear from all the other fights.

It was like "oh hey new music... wait a min..." *dead*

I didnt level that high since I focused on hand and land classes..but I know for sure there's a party theme, leve(party) theme and 'dungeon' theme from what I seen with my sister leveling.

Yah, it looks like an airship fused with an arthropod. Giant flying bugship ftw!

it was already different since alpha..

    if they didnt change it,

    outdoor battle is track 15
    dungeon battle is track 1B

those are their file names, and also the file names used in the game music rip

They were different. Just like in XI. Battle music (solo), battle music (group), battle music (Solo dungeon), battle music (group dungeon).

Except in phase 2, Guildleve music was XI's group music. (I think)

Really, it comes down to bugs and kept promises. The game has to be somewhat clean, especially in this day and age. With so many MMOs out there to jump ship to, you can't throw out a half-assed product that looks like it wasn't tested until the last weekend before launch.

You also can't go out promising the moon to players, then delivering a clump of dirt. Mr. Fable has done this twice, and go figure that the series hasn't sold well. Age of Conan is the undisputed KING of empty promises, to the point that they even went back and started patching the nudity in the game on NPCs, despite swearing up and down that the game was meant for mature audiences. Its no wonder there was a mass exodus from the game in a few short months.

SE's pretty good at keeping their promises, though; mostly because they promise nothing, but hey, if we're never promised something, we can't get mad when we don't get it, right? Its a sound strategy in its absurdity.
Actually, I would say that Funcom are the kings of broken promises. I didn't play Age Of Conan because I remembered what Anarchy Online was like (and if ever there were an appropriately titled game, that was it)

I'll grant you that I liked S-Es "No Promises Broken" methodology, but the sheer intimidating wall between players and developers in XI was annoying, especially the glacial pace with which they would respond to issues that plagued players day in day out. When I quit I left a lengthy message to that effect for them.

Thinking of AOC's launch makes me shudder, to this day. It was toted as a WoW-killer, but fizzled out in months. And I see why: sure, it was a beautiful game, with in-depth character customization, but those things do not take you past the fact that, once you stepped of the character creation screen, you were faced with an unintuitive, hollow game riddled with bug upon bug.
    Yup, that's Funcom!

There are plenty of other MMO games that have crashed in the early days due to this. Asheron's Call 2, while pretty and relatively unbugged, was just empty of real engaging content.

The lack of that, I think, is partially due to what you're saying Lucavi, with SE not making too many promises, and therefore not having too many promises to keep. It's not that they're setting the bar low, it's just that they're not setting it to an unrealistic point they can't deliver on.
I think that the upcoming star wars MMO is attracting a lot of attention from portions of the WoW playerbase - especially portions that won't like FF-style gameplay. If anything will be attributed the title of WoW-killer, it'll be that.

Yeah, though SE did fix a lot of problems that affected the majority of people but the main complaints always came down to:

    HNM
    Botting
Cheating but since I do it don't fix it thx
    RMT
    Give us AV secret prz

SE did a lot towards RMT but where there's assholes there will be Botting, so that will never vanish, and the HNM situation only affected so few people who complained about it yet kept subjecting themselves to it, but the "more ways to level" and "more content" is definitely something SE always produces, it's always hit or miss because players feel they need to be rewarded handsomely for like 2 minutes of work or rewarded handsomely to help people actually wanting to try it for the first time.
