Oh lawd.
Oh lawd.
Hopefully if they go about HNM the way they have with abyssea there shouldn't be a need for bot claiming at least, not that there wont be bots for other things. So that should knock 2 off the list.
As far as AV, I don't mind having something that is very difficult and take a lot of work to kill. It makes people have something to work for, but the problem with AV is it's unrealistic with how they have it set up for it to be killed that it turns people away from the goal. Requiring dedication to learning your class's mechanics and obtaining some of best gear you can to defeat a still difficult end boss would be ideal to me.
Yeah it was that one. You can tell this is pretty much a chinese knock-off. I wouldn't say the quality is quite as good as a ps2 controller, but it feels very similar. I think the ps2 controller may be a bit more solid. I mean you get what you pay for and for less than $5 i really can't complain. It works well enough, but if you want something better, then dish out more cash.
When mine came, the L3 stick button seems to be stuck in and harder to press than the R3, but after pulling it out and pressing it in a few times I got it working smoother. The R3 is still easier to hit, but before you seriously had to jam the L3 to recognize a click. Not a major problem, because I assigned L3 to change from 3rd person to 1st person and R3 is to lock onto your current target (if you look on the beta website, they actually recommend having these two switched, which seems odd).
as for the rumble, I didn't even realize it had it until you mentioned it. The thing is I just plugged it in and used it and didn't bother installing the cd that came with it. I'm sure I probably could get it to work, but then again I'm not a huge fan of vibration in games anyway.
I wish they fired Daisuke the "AV" "PW" "Silver Sea Remnants" Sase.
The man reminds me of Kubo. AV is his Aizen.
release will be like a supernova :
1)bright flash
2)shockwave
3)implosion of remnants
4)????
5)loss
yes, I'm bitter
now more srs poast: I really want too see how SE gonna cope with initial zerg of all bored WoW friends & co. During recent launches (War, Aion) you saw devs a) adding more servers b) using queues. A) leads to empty servers when first tide vanishes, second to a lot of internet rage + event faster quitting.
Plus, I really doubt FFXIV will be exception to having most players 1 month, then less and less.
No PvP = Wow kids goes home after an hour and the more casual base (and there's -a lot- of em) that hate PvP will no doubt stay. Lots don't get into games like WoW because of the focus on PvP content and how no one really cares for PvE, FFXI/XIV you go in knowing its PvE focused.
I think they said there will be a cap of 10k people per server so it should be fine, they already have a queue system in place for sure.
I'm hoping for steady growth like in XI instead of massive zerg rush on the release day, but I guess that's too optimistic.
I don't know about War, but Aion NA(sept 22nd, 2009) came out between WoW's 3.2 and 3.3, which is why people went MIA from WoW for 2-3 months. Then here comes 3.3 for WoW which is WotLK's ICC patch everyone waited for. People say goodbye to Aion.
You're probably right with the people coming to FFXIV for 2-3 months in this case as well. I wanna say that Cataclysm was targeted Nov.-Dec. release, all they've said is 2010 release.
I've personally played FFXI and WoW side by side since the WoW release, and I'll probably play all 3 when FFXIV comes, however I don't plan to play Cata long after release beside to check out the raids. The problem with Cata is that they don't have any iconic characters to me to defeat this time around, which I think is the case for a lot of others. This might cause people to stay with FFXIV more so then WoW (not saying it's a WoW killer, but may take some away). KotOR is coming next year as well, so I'm sure there will be a ton of shifting of players.
Edit-
People in WoW are sitting between expansions atm with a small raid that was introduced (Ruby Sanctum) . Often the best time for them to go experiment with other MMO's. If SE had released FFXIV 2-3 months sooner with the same quality as they would in Sept, I bet they could have snagged a lot more away from WoW.
I dunno if there even can be an initial rush, what with the massive graphical requirements. Most of the "WoW kiddies" that people mock are running old 2004-6 rigs and laptops, which simply will not play this game at all, even on the lowest setting.
There's going to be an initial surge, sure, but who knows if all of those people even get into the game because of the massively hard time they'll have of actually functioning in the game due to the requirements.
For the record, I don't think that's a bad thing at all. If you're going to tout your shit as the wave of the future and the "next step", then come original and set the bar high. I won't mind if servers are packed or light one way or another, especially if there's enough solo content so that I don't feel forced to dig around for groups.
There's going to be plenty of suckers/patrons to buy my overpriced crafting goodies and outdated equipment, so I'll make my money, and plenty of my friends from other games are all going to try and corral into the same server, so I won't have to worry about that end.
Arguably the biggest thing I'm worried about, aside from seeing just how polished (read: different from FFXI) the game turns out to be on launch, and about how the hell I'm going to be able to keep in touch with my old JP FFXI ballista friends.
R2 is 'open/close emote list' which I could care less for, so I put that on L3, kept 'toggle between camera modes' on R3, and place 'toggle target lock on/off' on R2. Aside from that, I have it set up the same as on the Controls page. Works well enough for me, because I pretty much never press L3 or R3 or use the controls now tied to them.
I'm using a PS2->USB converter for a PS2 controller, which works pretty well for me. Now that you mention it, though, I don't think rumble functionality worked, but I don't really mind.
I detest PvP, I was a Raid Tank Warrior in WoW. The lack of PvP is certainly a draw.
Small communities on servers are good as long as the population holds up, but bad if the population declines past a critical level where party formation becomes an issue. FFXIV has two advantages on this front; The staggered platform release means they can release on PC with a relatively high number of servers, knowing that they will be able to absorb the initial PC release rush with room to spare, and yet have an eventually high playerbase per server when the PS3 players arrive.
Secondly, the worldwide unified servers mean that population is more evenly distributed over the whole day, with no "peak time" clumping on server. Again, this assists the absorption of the initial release day rush, and buffers the smaller communities on the servers against the critical point problem of population.
If the server names stay the same on release day, all I can see is "ZOMG SEPHEROFFFFFFLLL" server being overwhelmed by people long as you get to choose.
I don't hate PVP it's not as hello kitty friendly as pure PVE but it's not terrible.
However everyone worrying about a WOW influx the size of an exodus please don't kid yourself. Most people who are on WOW don't even know this game exist nor would they leave there technicolor vomit world to venture to XIV. Tera is an infinitely better candidate because of boobies.
A decent number of people on WoW know of XIV that I've met, though they seem to not even know XI existed if anything. Though I have met people that have played XI and say they will play XIV as well. I've tried to avoid conversations about XI to people on WoW too just because of the nerd rage behind WoW being the best thing ever.
