Some people on Aion start talking about XIV in the world chat and immediately it gets bashed. Thats fine with me though because I can't stand all the whiny little kids on Aion.

What I like is great ask me how great it is. It's not really a new concept check any comments section for any iconic game. I guess it's a cerebral defense that maintains that "I'm wasting my time on the best possible time waster ever". AMD vs Intel ect...
@Tokitoki
Speaking of Aion I heard you could fly. Deny or Confirm.
Most of my former WoW guildies know of FFXIV, but then most of my former WoW guildies are people like me - hardcore MMO gamers who keep up to date with the news and views of the genre.
Those kind of people know about FFXIV, and those kind of people may well look - the kiddies will be the followers later, if at all. Remember, WoWs initial release wasn't that unexpectedly successful - it was the year or two of continual rise in subscriptions as people upgraded computers (and costs fell).
FFXIV will have that only more so because of how system intensive it is.
I'm certainly not anti-PVP, as some of my fondest memories in FFXI were the JP/NA 60-uncapped ballista/brenner matches, and I loved stomping the yard in BGs in WoW.
That being said, World PVP has no place in FFXIV, and really shouldn't. I can't even imagine them trying to work world PVP into a storyline, especially as FFXI's plots always boiled down to you, alone, saving the world, and from the looks of it, FFXIV will be no different.
Its following the typical format of: treating you like a scrub > treating you like a scrub with a rank in an organization > treating you like a scrub while off-handedly respecting your skill > treating you like a scrub while begrudgingly conceding that they need your help > treating you like a scrub while acknowledging that you're the last, greatest hope, so long as you pair up with XXX NPC, and finally, treating you like a scrub while giving you some kind of reward.
I remember how hilarious it was to beat Alexander in ToAU, getting a reward, and still being rejected from not only entering the castle, but any of the "rich" parts of town. Then I go back to Naja and she's still treating me like shit, even though I brought her in tons of cash.
Just once I want to be treated like a hero. Throw a private CS with me on a chocobo with some glitter or confetti or something. Drape a pre-rendered cloak over my shoulders or something, with a Paul Walker smile. Bah, I'm getting off-course...
Anyway, PVP isn't a problem, so long as its set aside for fun, and doesn't interfere with PVE (except for producing rewards that can be used in PVE, which FFXI failed to do).
The more choices, the better, even if you yourself aren't interested in those choices. You just never know who is, and why step on their toes?
Could you even imagine how clunky world PVP would be in FFXIV with it's current combat system that would be pretty funny. Archers would win just because of mobility.
@Lucavi
Even if you got your CS they would just treat you like a scrub in the next expansion.
No PvP means no "balance" for PvP, means actual balance for PvE.
Spoiler: show
Aye, that they would. I'd love to see a MMO that didn't treat a high level, well-respected adventurer like a joke. From a realistic standpoint, sure, maybe I don't have the 100,000 HP that you do, Mr. NPC, but I don't see you fighting that boss either.
And our characters always just sit there with that idiotic blank stare and take the insults, lol. Time after time. At least this game gives you a chance to say yes or no every now and then, although a little textual freedom ala. Fallout or Mass Effect would be nice.
To be fair, if we'd had freedom of response in XI the duke of jeuno would never have got anything done. I had that guy pegged as evil the second I saw his guyliner.
Yeah I do realize it's only beta and we shouldn't expect wow expansion levels of polish. I'm really hoping they will introduce it in phase 3/at launch/later on. I really feel it would make a difference, and as we know there's a couple of gems hidden in that OST.
I guess if it's really bad we'll just have to mod the music so the songs we hate are a couple of seconds of looping silence, or music we loved from ffxi haha.
FFXIV:Beta Protocol now with more killing of main characters.
People on Aion bash every single game that is not Aion. I think it's because they're so defensive of what they know, deep down, is a lacking product.
Dunno if you're trollin', but either way, I'll bite: you can fly, but it's kind of a lame system. It's time limited, meaning you can easily fall to your death, unless you stack up on like 100 pots that you chain drink, which is expensive and silly but essential if you venture out to pvp. You can basically win pvp fights in the open pvp zone based on how many pots you have, nothing else. You can also glide in certain zones, allowing you to drift down the side of cliffs and slopes, but that's time-limited too. Anyway, being a pseudo-angel really ain't that cool.Originally Posted by BlackheartX
Yeah you can fly, but the combat in mid-air is clunky. If you're good you can escape an attack pretty easily in the air by just stopping flight and falling a while, then opening your wings up again.
Havign to stop to use most skills really defeats the purpose of fighting while flying.
Trolled.
Nuts. Where's a Boxxy picture when you need it?
Would have been better if we had to go into a larger explanation.
This just in tarus in XIV sprouted wings in P3, screw airships, have an army of flying pixies.
Nerf tarus imo.
This has probably been said somewhere that I've missed.
What are the racial stat differences like? Are they as severe as in XI if there are any?
I almost want to try the galka race (since they arent as stubby), but dont want to the a gimpy mage.
