maybe we didn't see the same movie, heh
So is it safe to say this movie bombed yet? It did worse than Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 so I guess I can feel better knowing that I'm not alone when I felt this movie stunk.
Im glad someone brought up Arnie earlier in this thread because when I think popcorn flick, he's usually the ideal image that comes to mind. I mean anyone who's seen Commando can tell you that though the movies plot was ridiculous, the action positively unrealistic with dialogue composed of multiple one-liners strung together, the movie is just fucking fun to watch.
You can throw in the DVD of a movie like Troll2 and extract satisfaction from its terribleness some 21 years after its release. Suckerpunch? Eh... I doubt anyone's talking about this in a year from now nevermind twenty.
One-liners, general silliness, action, 'splosions, eye candy and more 'splosions are what popcorn flicks are made of and Suckerpunch just failed to deliver. I really wanted this movie to succeed just because it had giant fucking samurais, a battle with a dragon, nazis AND hot chicks with katanas and guns but the battles were just so bland that even someone like me who can take copious doses of bad plot and dialogue couldn't stomach it. I mean they really tried to make the action sequences fun but I just could not connect and they got shorter as the movie progressed. This movie frustrates me ._.
Hell, at least Arnie throws out some corny one-liners every 10 minutes to give me a chuckle or something. I didn't laugh once during this movie and infact at times I felt the opposite - annoyed at the serious tones the movie was trying to convey while simultaneously giving me fantasy environs and 'splosions.
In the end it just felt like this movie was trying to teach me something while lapsing into action sequences to justify my admission. Maybe I just didn't connect with the film or something... who knows. Hopefully Source Code turns out better.
If not, I can always just watch "The Room" again.
Adult Swim's showing this movie on Thursday lol
and honestly, I don't understand all this hate for Sucker Punch.
I liked it. Was it a really great movie? No, but it's one of the better movies I've seen in awhile. I saw it in Imax though, so maybe that made it drastically better? idk.
and so far Sucker Punch has made $20mil
I wouldn't say hate, but some of us had decent expectations on this film. I wasn't expecting to come out of the theatre a changed man or anything like that. Rather, just have some fun w/ a semi-decent plot/acting. Shit, I had my iMax tickets ready for Saturday and had the hype for a longass time.
Badass son of a bitch right there.
For an action film it wasn't that great; some parts the choreography was pretty awkward. The cinematography was pretty good, at least in the beginning.
Plot was a thinly veiled excuse for Zack Synder to film girls in skimpy clothing doing all the action sequences he ever thought of that made him get half-hard. Which is disappointing because it could have been so much more.
Taken was fucking awesome and I usually think Liam Neeson is a little bitch
Oh yeah, my bad. Must have been too busy trying to figure everything else out.
Spoiler: show
I think the action scenes in this movie failed because Snyder used the exact same action sequence for each one, just changing up the enemies. Plus, I'm sure the movie would have been 30 minutes shorter if the scenes were in real time, not slowed down. I would have liked to have seen more real time sword action out of Babydoll after that first scene with the giant Samurai. The other girls didn't do much but hold guns and look pretty. When Milla Jovovich or even Angelina Jolie are in action movies they look like they're actually doing something. These girls looked like they were trying to move as little as possible as to not muss their hair or lose a fake eyelash.
I didn't get to see the train sequence and the last bit because I had walked out.
This movie was not that bad. I will never understand why people walk out of a movie. Maybe its cause im not white? Do you do it to look cool? Ive never left a movie, but I also didnt watch DBZ:Evolution at the theater. lol
I've only walked out of 1 movie, and that's because the screen died for like ten minutes and they didn't pause the movie, so I was like fuck this i want my money back
I have only left a theater during a movie once, and that was only to use the restroom, but that was Kiss of the Dragon that my friends drug me to and I don't like kung fu movies.
I walked out of Pootie Tang...
Didnt help that a 6 year old could probably write a more developed plot
edit:
Pootie Tang was like 10 times better than Sucker Punch
Fight sequences we're reused atleast 4x. Cheap storyline. Hot babes. Is it worth the $12.50, not really. Worth watching, wait for the DVD. Should have went and watched Hobo with a shotgun. Lol.

how did people think it would be anything else? I mean that was pretty obvious from the previews.
Also, as to people bitching about the slowed down fight scenes, you must have hated 300 then because snyder did that stuff in there too. That's kinda his thing, so don't act all shocked and disappointed that he did it again.
