I've already explained this to someone else today, but if I ran the show, theological/political discussion would not even be allowed. Shit never comes up with anything productive, just a bunch of idiot 'no u' shit-flinging and foaming at the mouth.

Granted that's what pretty much every forum boils down to, but at least most of the others are about subjects that are remotely pertinent to the site.

You can reduce any discussion by two people who disagree to this caricature, so you're basically talking about eliminating opinions themselves. Now, it's definitely true that people on this forum don't even attempt to elevate the discourse, but a discussion is not inherently useless if no one changes their mind by the end of it. I've never had any conversation that ended that way, no matter how menial.

Definitely true about threads here.

Although back in the day maxxthepenguin and I had some great exchanges that I thought where very informative and interesting in between plow spraying projectile diarrhea everywhere and neosutra countering with projectile vomit. Everyone just kind of ignored it so we gave up.
