Such a big deal for a bit of paper and ink... it's surpising that both sides are led by people who seem to care so much about an act that has no impact whatsoever on things that really matter. Just another demonstration of how easily the average person can be controlled.

Hear on Hannity that the pastor is calling it off. Granted, he said the only way he would call off the event would be if the Imam agreed to move the site. I'm not sure how much to believe they are moving the site, but hell, at least he's not being the world's largest idiot for the moment.

    edit: beaten

I can't say I'm surprised at the Muslim's reactions. They're more devoted (used in both a good and bad sense) to their religion than almost anyone else.

faith is the underpinning of all reality for most deeply religious people. threaten their faith and you threaten everything they've based their lives on. that little bit of paper and ink is the foundation on which some people have built their entire existence; destroy it and you destroy them, entirely.

not that I'm saying faith is a bad thing - I think everyone needs faith in something, whether religion, general spirituality, or plain old fucking math. but people who use faith as a tool to prop themselves up run the risk of losing everything their faith has built when it is challenged, hence the extreme reactions.

this is why people who say they are strong in their faith feel such a need to defend it with violent actions that violate the very principles their faith is supposed to be based on, no matter how hypocritical that may be. rather than examining the different tenets of their faith and building a personal belief system upon that, they skip past all that shit and simply use their faith as a crutch, and when someone takes away the only thing that's keeping you standing, you're likely to get defensive. kinda funny that they end up acting out against their own faith more than anyone who could challenge it from the outside.

i want to put my 2 cents into this considering both my parents are muslim and i grew up seeing how retarded religion is. the amount of "faith" the people that want to burn the quar'an have is the same as the Islamic radicalists that want to blow America up. its crazy to think that the "storys" in the bible and quar'an are the same, even though i have read all of the quar'an (in both english and arabic) and most of the bible and everyone that thinks they are different have an IQ of 50 and need to fuckin die. they are seriously what is wrong with this world, deciding what is right or wrong because of a book that was "written by god and brought down to humans" is seriously the most egotistical thing someone can do.

and i agree with what Yuri said in that those people that use faith instead of thinking logically about their actions. Its like those people are brainwashed to only believe that if its not in the bible then its not true. do people really think that if you dont follow the 10 commandments your going to hell? wtf dude i look at those and see the common courtesy of being a human being, not the gods telling me if i dont follow your rules "IM GONNA RAPE YO ASS". seriously people need to get their head out their ass as realize were all fuckin human we just need to understand each others way of everything really

I find it slightly ironic that the pastor was using "terror", in the form of defacing a religions holy book, as a way to alter someones behavior. It takes a real American to remember the results of a terrorist by becoming a terrorist

nb4 comparing 9/11 to burning a book. The severity of a terrorist act is irrelevant to the intended impact

I'm against this because it's a waste of resources. As a wise man once said, "Give a man a piece of paper and he eats for a day, but give that man a book and he eats for 3432." We really need to start recycling.

This is a plot by the right to besmirch the name of our true saviours, Monty Python. First Palin, now Jones. Watch out, Cleese.
