Is it still terrible?
Is it still terrible?
Nope.
Really?
He is giving me the opposite impression.
I actually felt that this battle system was more involved rather than just wait and click
It wasn't the greatest game ever but the amount of bandwagon hating it got was absolutely ridiculous.
I'm still looking for one legitimate reason people hate this game so much. "hurr you can just hit auto-attack" is a gross exaggeration and not even counting the Gran Pulse endgame will start getting you killed on trash mobs about halfway through the game. "durr you don't get to backtrack" is retarded, as if backtracking was ever fun. I remember all the people bitching about how they got rid of all the backtracking in the MGS series by MGS4. Oh wait, no I don't, because no one enjoys backtracking.
AoE attacks are dumb due to the constant movement during battles when it looks like they should just... move out the fucking way as is the fact you have no real control over your party members. Otherwise the battle system was fine. I didn't once use auto-attack and I enjoyed it. Linearity was pretty damn bad and made running around outside of battles boring as fuck, but it wasn't a game killer for me.
I mean c'man, there's no excuse for not just being able to swap party members in the middle of a fight. AI can pick up the character you left behind, just like playing FFXII with Gambits on. Shit is certainly way too fast to not have the AI control shit, but at least that way you have much more choice in battles.
ruinga spam is all i did to beat it
Fuck yeah magical gravity defying aoe blasts. IT'S LIKE I'M REALLY PLAYING TEKKEN.
Was it terrible, no. Was it incredible, no.
It'll go down in history as a midrange FF.
You can give commands to your party in Tales games. You generally get an item that lets you swap character mid-battle at some point too, but initially that is usually the case. However you still have much more control over your party members when you're not controlling them than you do with paradigm system.
ffxiii endgame is great
No. You don't 'generally get an item' that allows it.
In Tales games, including Symphonia... you can just DO it.
In some of the other entries they force you to get an item.
But anyway, people loving that game certainly has little to do with character switching because most people I know just stuck with Lloyd anyway. The game's fucking fun no matter who you use considering the combat system is far more involved than any Final Fantasy title.
