Yeah, that's a weird move. I'm pretty hyped for this.

The Sherlock special episode just finished airing in the UK and it's out there to be found on the internet

That was fairly horrible. Too self indulgent for my tastes.
They went super meta. But it was so fucking good for a special where I didn't really expect anything of substance.
Spoiler: show
It was a one off special set in a different time period. Were you really expecting it to not be self indulgent?
Multi posts because I have further thoughts.
Implications for the future of the show...

Back to the long pause in between seasons
I really enjoyed it as a one-off. The period stuff was pretty great and that very last scene was pretty hilarious.
Not the worst I've seen from Moffat, but too self-indulgent and silly. Arguably the worst episode of this Sherlock series. Moffat needs someone more sensible than Moffat to be in charge.
Spoiler: show
Once again. The whole point of a xmas special is to be self-indulgent and silly. People complaining about no plot advancement lol Like we were supposed to get ZERO plot advancement. Be happy we even got any. It was supposed to be entirely detached from the main story.
But we at least got an answer to whether or not Moriarty is dead. And I don't know what episode you watched but the case did get resolved.
I was under the impression we'd get 0 plot advancement and the whole thing was going to be dumb callbacks and jokes. Still was enjoying it though, I'm a real big fan of these kinds of "scary" plots
I was pleasantly surprised when we were getting real plot advancement. And I was excited we finally get some hard drugs into the show too. I don't remember bbc sherlock ever having those
Ya, I remember that. I don't think it was said that he did it to solve a case, ie that the drugs were a positive influence.
What I was thinking of is deliberately, and unambiguously, showing that hard drugs were a positive influence. Stories tend to stay away from that because oh the kids, think of the kids! Shoulda been more specific I guess, but I liked the in-your-faceness of him doing drugs to solve things, and I'm pretty sure we've never seen that in bbc's sherlock, but it's been a few years
