I thought you were gonna lay the smack down, I got all hyped after reading all the posts.
I don't know why I'm bothering because I'm 94.3% sure TF is just trolling for the sake of trolling. But hey, I'm at work so sure, I'll white knight for Windows.
I would very much like to meet these mythological industries that only use Macs.
Blue screens are usually caused by hardware, and Macs have been using the same hardware as PCs for years now. OSX is prone to hanging and crashing just as much as any Windows build, especially since most of the time it's caused by user error. Yes, if you're a dumb shit, using a Mac won't save you.that need a computer and OS that are reliable enough to run extremely expensive software and not blue screen
Not unique to Windows.crash
Macs can get viruses too, they just can't embed themselves as easily. If you don't have enough common sense to avoid viruses on Windows, you'll probably get them on a Mac, too.become infected
What? I think you're confusing Windows with the iPad.run several high end apps at once
Again, Macs and PCs have been using the same hardware for years. And if you want to replace or upgrade parts in a Mac, good luck doing it yourself.last for a very long time without having to replace parts and on and on.
The rest of your rambling is not even worth responding to. Not that any of this was..
EDIT: Also a big lol at the Mac fanboy ripping Linux when they pretty much jacked the unix kernel for OSX

Serious answer about why Windows Vista/XP still have a huge market share:
- Corporations/Government have lots of ancient servers/workstations that they're too cheap to upgrade.
- Non-tech users (your grandma) will never upgrade if it can run a web browser to read facebook.
So, you don't know shit about Macs or who uses them but you know everything about Macs and who uses them.
How about Hollywood for one. Movies are made and edited using Final Cut and other plug ins. The special effects industry uses Macs. Everyone in the music industry from producers to engineering studios to mastering studios uses macs. Whole design firms have nothing but macs for their designers.
Tens of thousands of dollars of software are used by industry professionals on Macs where a couple hundreds of dollars are used on PC's in offices. Windows is entirely unreliable to capably run several thousand dollars worth of software, sometimes several at once, which you could put on a low end iMac.
Macs and OSX are designed for this superior structure and necessity. Pro's don't bitch about Macs, they use them. Fanboy gamers bitch about maca because they don't see the point in buying an expensive and well made computer to install video games on.
You're way off the mark and you're speaking from a perspective of someone that just uses a PC and is completely ignorant of the 5 W's for using a Mac.
My workplace JUST upgraded to win7 on our development machines. We were on XP immediately before. Not a single computer ever had vista installed on it (thank god)
XP is still popular because it's a fairly solid product as it is right now. No UAC shenanigans, most of the major bugs were ironed out in 3 SPs. I think I'm still running XP on my desktop, though my laptop has 32/x64 versions of vista (with UAC disabled as much as possible) installed for kicks. Have the win7 iso, just need to get around to installing it.
I will say, win7 is definitely not too shabby. They changed around some of the control panel stuff needlessly, but I feel a lot of their UI improvements are for the better.
I like some Apple products, but honestly I can't see the point of the iPad. It's not a laptop (so no gaming on say FFXI) and it's not a phone/small thing to put in your pocket and go (so no using for little games on the Tube or for looking up stuff on the go). That for me only leaves it as a cool thing to browse the internet with, but wait, it can't run Flash. *shrugs*
Honestly since SP1 on Vista, it's not been a problem for me. Vista when it first came out was pretty terrible, but as of now, it's certainly not as rubbish as some people are making it out to be. That said, I wouldn't turn down an upgrade to Win7, if only for the spiffy changing backgrounds <3
Does that make me a Windows fanboy? No, because I'm looking at the pros and cons of both and will buy/not buy whichever I think is best based on its merits, rather than 'just cause its Microsoft'/I was told it was good and won't look into it myself/etc.
>.> I think you have it all wrong man, it all depends on what you are doing. My father has been video and music editing for over 30 years now. He even goes back as far as eastside before they went under. The real answer is this, each group uses their own stuff.
NBC for football, fox for baseball he went to the saltlake city and guess what? not once has he used a mac. In fact he says the one he tends to use the most is fairlight(for sound editing).
He owns a mac and all but thats because he understands that you have to no more then just one system. To say one is better then the other is just a joke, they all have their ups and downs. You should no as many as you can, it is that simple.
He as of now does work for the WWE, his room that he works in was just built and ran them over 200,000 to make. Its all windows based.
edit: I stayed away from eastside crap mostly because really how many people know them? unless you knew the workings of commercials in the 80's
TRY AGAIN. In the last year I've spent around 6k on computer hardware (not even getting to software or any other purchases I made over the year), somehow I think if gave a flying fuck about Apple I would have bought their oh so amazing OS and obscenely overpriced computers, but alas.
And I've been to quite a few recording studios, Hollywood, all that good shit. Never seen a single person that uses solely a Mac for Video/Audio editing, if even at all. One of those awesome rumors spread around to make Mac users feel more important.
Hilarious. You're living the past broseph. You keep saying "Macs and OSX are designed for this" but what the fuck does that mean? Macs run on the same hardware, do you not understand this? Why are you acting like Windows is somehow incapable of running multiple programs at once? I would love for you to explain the abysmal Mac market share if all these design companies are using them. 3 people using Final Cut in a company of thousands of people does not constitute "all of Hollywood". Sorry.
My company has roughly 500 engineers developing programs for high-end media distribution and others who exclusively use AutoCAD (zomg an expensive program! apparently that means a lot in the Mac fantasy world) and they use nothing but Windows. We have 4 Macs in the entire company, used by the Marketing department. One is a test machine. This is not a unique case.
I'm sure a lot of design companies use Macs, just because they're Macs. The "more reliable" argument is tired and outdated. If people want to use Macs, fine, there's nothing wrong with that. It's the idea that you *have* to use a Mac to be in the design or video editing field that's pants-on-head retarded and indicative of the elitist attitude of Mac users.
Wtb Debian fanboy era, at least they'd have legit arguments.
I like how mac users so far don't know anything about macs and the world outside there house.
Nice comparisons there. I'd argue that the biggest reason a design firm uses Macs is because it's expected of them. Just like they "have" to have a hip interior, they wouldn't look the part without them.
Adobe CS is crossplatform, and just as reliable and performant on both systems. Quark Xpress I don't have experience with, but it's available on both as well. Publishing company I worked at was all-PC, the designers just had beefier HP machines with "thousands of dollars of software". Didn't hear them complain one bit during my time there.
Final Cut is a great program, but it's not the golden standard you're making it out to be. Television station I interned at only had four or five Macs with Final Cut for the reporters to do quick and rough edits on. The people employed solely to edit? Avid on HP or Dell machines.
I'm not going to argue about what Pixar or Timbaland use to get their jobs done, but when people do choose a Mac, it'll more likely be for programs not available on Windows. Saying that Macs are more reliable, performant or somehow the only system able to cope with the "stress" of running very expensive programs simply isn't true.
As someone who uses quark on a daily basis, there are better programs now. Mostly because up until recently it was a huge buggy piece of shit for a solid 5 years.
The very fact that Weta Digital does not use Mac, and didn't even write Massive to be compatiable with OS X is reason enough to show that Mac's hold on movies is long gone.
For the record Weta digital did make Massive usable on Windows 32 bit systems, but was written for and intended for use on Fedora Systems, which Weta uses. The 64 bit version is for Fedora only also.
(BTW, of the nominations for Best Visual Effects in the last academy awards, the only one that had any macs involved was Star Trek, with ILM doing the effects.)
BTW, even RenderMan has been written for Windows OSs now also....
The music industry is pretty well split on which OS to use - Windows 7 or OSX.
Pro Tools is available for either and so is Reaper. It doesn't magically run better on a Mac, it's just easier to streamline the interface and reduce mixing latency (which in a professional studio is not an issue) in a home studio when using plugins.
There is no single studio in existence that uses software plugins while recording music. That is all done in post-processing, of which there is no significant difference between OSX and Windows. I would know. I've been in pro studios and have used PT in my home studio for years now.
