The bases we have there are permanent. I have a family member who is contract worker for KBR and he just re-upped for five years. Lets just say his job is dependent on military armaments

Even though I usually disagree with Rhinox on 90% if not more in what he says, troops staying Iraq is inevitable. Optimism? More like realism. I wouldn't doubt if at the very minimum there were tens of thousands (could be 10,000! or more) "peacekeeping" troops staying. Nice to know a lot of the boys will be coming home though.

Adding to Atreides' info, the number of US military bases ranged around 737 for fiscal year 2005, with 16 large bases, 22 medium, and 699 small. Special operations bases are probably not accounted for.
