Advice for train level on Brutal? They just have so much shit and I... don't. They wear me down so thin that eventually I can't keep up forces to kill train and I'm out of minerals.
Complete protoss arc if you can. The tech trees you get are very useful (biosteel, auto rafinery, auto supply..etc), and the upgrade from armory wont hurt either (building one, tank, goliath). I recommand getting normal tank and mercenary tanks as well since they are very powerful to snipe the escort. If it's one of the first mission you're doing, I would go for diamond goliath alone, but its not going to be easy.
Essentially, I just had made a mixed balls of goliath and diamondback, mixed with a few tanks and marauder. Right from the beginning, I went north to grab the mineral/diamond, waited for the first train and killed it. Then I went south to grab the remaining 3-4 diamondback/tech/mineral, and fought the 2nd train/3rd train.
After that, I sieged my tank near the ledge of my base (had to move it between top and bottom of my base) to snipe the train/escort from above. In the last few waves, its preferable to save often since raven can fuck your army badly with the seeker missiles. For the speedy train, I think I had to send all my unit after it, and barely got the kill.
I think what I did was rush the diamondbacks and get a few rax up for mnm. Then I pretty much nonstop produced diamondbacks, spending extra resources on mnm only. Then grab a handful of SCVs to autorepair diamondbacks between trains. Diamondbacks really decimate those trains.
Diamond are kinda needed anyway for the speed train. You dont want to reach that part with 3 diamondback.
Bottom tracks where they almost touch Siege tanks and Bunkers with MMs in them only takes about 6Bunkers can add 8if wish, and some siege tanks for long rang, with 2SCVs to repair dmg,
Then just have a force to take out the top track,
Edit: try get units in postion be4 they start building bunkers this is apoint where the AI trys buid few bunkers
I got about 10 DB's then made a MM army and some tanks putting them on the little islands overlooking the tracks. I put 2 hero siege tank on the north island and they actually killed the marauder ball as it walked by without taking any damage. After that I used my MM ball to kill the other army and with tanks and DB(repairing them when I could) sniped bunkers ahead of time and sniped the escort with 5+ siege tanks hitting them then all you need to do it stay infront of the train and forget the escort(it wont catch you) and run with it till it dies.
Easy mission on brutal TBH.
When I did the train level I didnt have shit in terms of upgrades or tanks. I basically had around 5-6 diamond backs chasing the train and had a ball of MM&Medics distracting the forces that come along with the train. I also saved before the announcement that they were building bunkers so I had reapers go around killing the SCVs before they completed the bunkers. Also had to basically orient my troops so they never ran into the marauder groups.
I was having trouble with that mission until I produced nothing but Diamondbacks with about 15 marines at my base with a couple of bunkers. When you have 12+ DB's the trains die so fast as do any ground units that you don't need to worry about the air as you can out run them once the train is dead. Having Banshee's also makes this level a joke, but I don't think many people have them by that point.
Yeah I don't have tanks yet, and all my upgrades are in zerg. My issue on Brutal is just I don't have money for shit. :/
Run around gathering the +100 minerals/gas in between trains
Man I must really suck because I keep getting stuck.
This time I'm on the Jungle level on brutal. I just can't beat the protoss. They always cap way too fast and my force gets dwindled down fast as fuck. And by the end of it I have 4-5 goliaths and they come at me with colossus's and shit. Also half of those spots are all the way in the back and protected as fuck. -.-
Don't use Goliath plain and simple. Use a strong force of MMM and say fuckall to anything else. You will quickly notice that your ball will hardly lose a marine from attack to attack. Kill the Protoss base and expand asap and protect it with turrets so a rogue scout doesn't snipe it. Bunkers at the entrance to it help fend off any harassment attack and you should have gotten the 150hp bunker upgrade or you might be in trouble later.
Now what I did is stop them from getting the 4 closest to my base, the right 2 and the 3 north of the expansion and let them lock the rest. When I had a 2 page ball I parked a CC in the middle of the 3 north of the expo built turrets(like 7) and harvested 3 at the same time while half my army was mobile and the other half in bunkers. Rinse and repeat for the last 4 at the same time but choke at the north part and have a bunker or 2 watching the right side between your 2 bases as they slipped in there and stalled my scv. If you want to get all the research take your scv's to the upper right as your turning in thenlast one and suicide into it and you at some point should have easily been able to push the left one.
When you do the last 4 at the same time they send a ton of shit so have like 12 turrets and 7 bunkers ready or you won't stall them enough.
This strat made it so much easier and I'm sure you can do it too just focus fire colossus and Templars first and your set.
I've done it with goliath without taking the expand, but Syntex's strats probably works better, especially with the tech upgrade.
I dont want to go in details over the whole strats, but if you're trying to get every tech, just send your remaining scv around the map in the last few minutes. There is no point fighting off these groups.
Also, try to aim for the farthest one first (or at least mid map). It's easier to defend the close one later than go get the one close to protoss bases.
For Welcome to the Jungle on brutal, I found it easiest to go for 3 gas points at a time, and protect them with about 7 missile turrets + some marines/medics/goliaths.
When the mission starts, I immediately sent an SCV to grab the bottom left gas. He shouldn't need any escort. While he's collecting, build as many units as possible. After the protoss send their first mini-attack on your base, send out all of your forces + 3 SCVs to the cluster of 3 gas points to the left of your base. Kill anything that's there, build 6 or 7 missile turrets (spread them out, they attack from all over the place), then collect all 3 gas points at the same time. Protoss really favor air units in this level so missile turrets are great =) Keep building marines/medics/goliaths while your SCVs are collecting.
Escort your SCVs back, then immediately send every unit you have to the protoss base just north of you. Wipe it out, then collect the 3 nearby gas points just above and to the left of that base after setting up 6 or 7 missile turrets.
Your base shouldn't really get attacked that much if you make sure to kill everything you see. If you just snipe their probes to stop them from capping, they'll hit your base pretty hard.
I was stuck on this mission for quite a while but eventually got it with this plan. Collecting gas in sets of 3 (especially the last 3) prevents you from having to deal with the AI ramping up their aggression. They should only be able to cap 2 or so gas points if you're efficient.
Arrgh Damit can't seem to get the opening gambit challenge Achivement freaking 30seconds off -.-;
Is that the one were you gotta make 30 marines and etc? I saved marines for last since they were made faster and at 2x. Also once you got a defense, killing your units helps so you don't have to keep making depots. The way I did it was making 2x factories and 4x barracks (2 for ghosts). Tanks and ghosts need to
Na its the 30marine & 8ghost/tanks and thats good idea i didnt think about killing off my units once i have my defence up -.0;
I didn't ever think about killing off my own units but its entirely do-able without it. I was going for rax+reactor factory+tech 2nd orbital command, 2 more rax+tech, ghost acad, 3 rax+tech to pump those ghosts out at the very end. It's super easy to get supply locked near the end if you don't keep your eye on it as a lot of units are popping out fast.
