A lot of people have been making a big deal out of multiplayer in Torchlight 2 -- and rightfully so -- but not so much talk has been about modding. The first game had a substantial mod community, thanks in part to Runic Games offering mod tools for free to all players. And during my demo of the game at PAX, a Runic rep confirmed that the company will once again freely distribute mod tools to the public.
But because of the addition of multiplayer, I was concerned about how mods will be shared now. The rep confirmed to me that players will be able to use the new multiplayer framework to find games incorporating mods but, better yet, all XP earned in these games will stay with your character. I was promised persistence across all games, be they mods or standard games.
One final interesting tidbit: all loot dropped in multiplayer games will be client specific. This means that the items you see in your game are only in your game. No need for mad dashes to grab all the high-level loot drops!
I don't see how they can blend modded and non-modded games and characters.
Seeing only your loot is also a D3 feature.

Torchlight 2 pushed to July
Predictions said 2 would be out before Diablo 3 and they're right.Runic has delayed the release of Torchlight 2 from its previously scheduled May or June launch to July.
CEO Max Schaefer told Digital Spy that time spent making the Xbox Live Arcade version of the original was behind the sequel's slip.
"I'd say that the Xbox project, having to do the extra work with the interface, has pushed us back a little bit, so we're probably talking July right now for Torchlight II," he said.
"It's going great, however. We've actually got some optimizations and technical improvements that went into making the Xbox version that we've been able to go back and implement into Torchlight II for PC.
"We've got load times down, we've got some animation stuff that's a little bit better, and it's feeling really good right now. Torchlight II is playing really snappy and really sharp, so I'm very excited about that."
Microsoft said yesterday that the Xbox 360 version of Torchlight is due for release on March 9 as part of its XBLA House Party promotion.
Summer 2012 was my prediction of 2 or 3 years ago, even that's starting to look shaky.Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer respectfully believes that a third Torchlight game could be out before Blizzard's Diablo 3
This info has been floating for bit, but no mention here:
Torchlight MMO (Working Title)
An MMO of the computer RPG Torchlight, developed by Runic Games.
A Torchlight MMO is currently being developed by Runic Games who created the first Torchlight game for PC. The original game was meant to be a test run for the MMO, which will be free to play, but will have a store with items for purchase.
The Torchlight MMO is currently delayed as the developers are putting their efforts towards a sequel to the first game, Torchlight II. At this time it is unknown when the MMO will be out.

One thing I heard mentioned in that video that I found odd. They talked about actually being able to find complete sets of the set armor. I noticed on my Xbox live copy of torchlite, I've been able to find 2-4 parts of 1 particular set of armor rather easily, but on my pirated copy on the PC (which is higher leveled than my xbox version) I've yet to find 2 of the same set. Anyone know if it was patched on the xbox or something?
My how times have changed. We joked about Torchlight 3 making it out before Diablo 3, but it seems like D3 will make it out before Torchlight 2. What has Runic been doing all this time?
They said they expecting T2 to be out Oct-Nov in that last video. That would put it well before Diablo 3, but make it very unlikely we'd see T3 before D3... but who the fuck knows with blizzard at this point.
not like it matters in the long run
Ah ok, I skimmed through that video. Last I heard there was no release date and their site didn't seem to have much information on it so I was under the assumption the game wouldn't make it out in 2011. I'm glad to hear it's looking like Oct-Nov, because I can't imagine the sales would be very good if D3 made it out before them. That all depends on how D3 is received though I guess.
There's the D3 beta getting people hyped to play D3 though. If that comes out before T2, people's minds might change a bit about picking it up
You mean if the beta comes out before T2? I don't think the Beta will affect T2 much. T2 is going to be a hold-over game, to tide people over until D3 arrives. I liked a lot of the shit I heard in that video, including the multiplayer, local multi player, and etc. Sounds like an upgraded/beefed up/debugged and tweaked version of T1 (which it essentially is). Long as it stays under $20 and there's a solid 2-3 months between it and D3's release date, I'll be picking it up.
