T2 is looking solid. It's a shame it won't be linked up like the battle.net accounts are, though. Nonetheless, I'm pretty stoked about it after seeing the videos and all.

I'm far more excited about this game than I am D3. I really hope people don't hop ship immediately when D3 comes out... though I know they will.

It'll happen. All the people saying they'll boycott D3 are just putting up a front. Even the cynicalbrit/biscuit feller will be balls deep in some D3 (as will I - lol).

I really enjoyed T1 and I've been playing it a bit again to get my Diablo fix. I'll definitely be picking up T2 along with D3, but whatever my friends end up playing the most is probably what I'll spend the majority of the time on. I will say though, I wasn't super crazy about the classes in the original Torchlight... but that's what modding is for right?!

512MB Of RAM Is "Not Enough"
I recently sat down with Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer to discuss how Torchlight 2 is progressing - which is to say that it's shaping up to be an astoundingly competent loot grinder that will treat its loyal community like royalty! When I asked about what the future holds for the franchise, however, Schafer suggested that Microsoft are still aggressively courting them to port both Torchlight 2 and their MMO to the Xbox 360... but that doing so will requie the entire game to be "completely rebuilt from the ground up." Apparently 512MB of RAM simply won't be "enough" for Runic Games to deliver the size and scope they want to deliver without a major software overhaul and masses of optimisation work.

Considering that Torchlight's art style was actually designed so that "it wouldn't need the latest shaders and could run on most PCs," we're a little surprised by the statement - but occasional slowdown in the XBLA version of the original Torchlight indicates that the lack of RAM is a major problem. In effect, Runic know what they're doing. NVIDIA are also keen for Runic Games to make an MMO for Tegra-equipped tablets, which will naturally require a bit of a rethink if Schaefer and co decide to go down this route. Why not check out our Torchlight 2 preview for more details!

I was really hoping that T2 would come out in July like originally stated. The vast majority of their players will be people who liked T1 and at the same time, people who want to scratch that Action RPG fix. The faster this comes out the better it'll do.

T1 was good but there was no balance beyond like, 40. Meant that there was very little replayability.

T2 will definitely be a hold-over game. They need to get it out before D3 or they are dead meat.

    While I'm at it.

Torchlight 2 priced at $20, final class revealed
Torchlight 2, the cooperation-friendly sequel to the million-selling dungeon crawler, has been officially priced at $20 by Runic Games. That's the same price as the original Torchlight. which had a far lower profile.

"Everyone who wants to play Torchlight 2 will be able to comfortably afford to do so, and they'll be able to play with their friend online or via a LAN, or play single player offline, all with no further purchase," said Max Schaefer, CEO of Runic Games.

Runic also revealed the fourth and final class in the game, the Embermage, who will join the Berserker, Outlander and Engineer on an obsessive quest for better loot. We're sure they'll save the world along the way or whatever, but it's the loot that's important.

Torchlight 2 is still targeting a 2011 launch.

None of this matters if they don't beat D3 out of the gate. Sadly, it's just a hold over game (most likely) until D3 is out.

That's the harsh reality of it, yea.

But these are ex-blizzard devs, they know what they're up against. Heck, they've helped making Diablo.. And the current team at Blizzard that is making D3 isn't even the same team as D2.

But I enjoyed TL1 a lot, will be getting this day 1.

Though Torchlight 2 was slated to release sometime before this holiday season, developer Runic Games has made it official on their website that the game is being delayed until some point in the future.

President of the company, Travis Baldree, mentioned that the remaining development time on Torchlight 2 is “relatively small” and that the team is mainly attempting to get a beta test under their belt before fully launching the game. Baldree stated that they want the game to be awesome, all the way through:

We feel pretty safe in saying that if you enjoyed Torchlight at all, this sequel is superior in every respect. Right now our job is to ensure that the quality level is consistent all the way to the end.
While hearing that Torchlight 2 is being pushed back into (hopefully) sometime next year is quite a considerable bummer, it’s refreshing to see a developer taking their time to make the best game they can, and taking as much time as they need.

In the words of Duke, it’ll be out “when it’s done.”

Baldree went on to conclude that there’s plenty of awesome games on the market right now, so why not go enjoy those while you wait?

Besides, you’re all playing Skyrim right now anyway, aren’t you? Or Battlefield 3? Or Uncharted 3? Or Saints Row 3? Or Arkham City? Or Skyward Sword? Or Minecraft? Or Modern Warfare 3? Or Dark Souls? Or Assassin’s Creed Revelations?
You make a very solid point Mr. Baldree, we do have quite a plethora of games to choose from, don’t we? In fact, I’m off to slay some more dragons right NOW.

"So... where is Torchlight 2? Didn't you guys say that you were planning to try to release this year?"

Well, yeah. We did - and we made a good run at that. We've come to the realization, however, that getting a game of this scope up to the quality and polish level we want to achieve is going to take a little longer; especially since we want to run a small beta before release to ensure that our launch is smooth.

The first Torchlight was released in record time, but it had plenty of issues that a little more development could have resolved. We didn't have the resources at the time to give Torchlight that treatment. Right at this moment though, we do have those resources for the sequel, and we feel strongly that we should apply them to make this the best game we can make and hopefully one that you'll enjoy and continue to want to play in the future. We've probably had 18 months of full development time on it so far - not excessively long yet, as far as that goes. The amount of time we need to take it the rest of the way is relatively small.

We feel pretty safe in saying that if you enjoyed Torchlight at all, this sequel is superior in every respect. Right now our job is to ensure that the quality level is consistent all the way to the end.

Besides, you're all playing Skyrim right now anyway, aren't you? Or Battlefield 3? Or Uncharted 3? Or Saints Row 3? Or Arkham City? Or Skyward Sword? Or Minecraft? Or Modern Warfare 3? Or Dark Souls? Or Assassin's Creed Revelations?

Those are awesome games. When Torchlight 2 goes live, we want it to be awesome too - all the way through.

Surprised so many don't know these are ex Blizzard-employees. Some of the guys that made D & D2 (and you know the old Diablo team is no longer working at Blizz, look up Blizzard North exodus).

You think they don't know what they're up against? You think these guys don't know what it means to polish a game? lol..
