They are similar but feel very different. I also am planning to play d3, but there is something also very appealing about Torchlight, LAN plus offline mode plus mods at $20 is a no brainer

I already have Torchlight 2 prepurchased, not D3 but i was able to get a beta invite for D3 back in november/december. I might pick it up later if I have enough friends who get it. I went in super excited to play D3 and very very optimistic about the title, but I had a number of bad experiences involving Blizzards side of tech issues which, to my best understanding, seemed to still be present during the open beta last month. If you can't fix problems that have been present for at least 6 months, then thats a giant red flag to me. A lot of optimistic people (fanbois) are willing to let it slide saying "beta is beta" and are giving Blizzard the benefit of the doubt, but i'm not.

So I simply took my business elsewhere. $20 vs $60; which would you rather spend, and what does the extra $40 get you? Not worth it imo.

Co-op looks as dull as in any other diablo-clone (and diablo included) where some guys do most of the work and you just stroll around looting shit. I've always liked the pet companion system though.

About a 1/15 chance of getting a code through Youtube... Not bad.

edit: and their site is overwhelmed

site is back up, but registration keeps crashing since being registered gives you a chance at one of some 500 codes

They just posted a batch and they were all nabbed so fucking fast. What a dumb way to distribute.

Very fun game, Outlander is so damn fun to me... I haven't tried the other classes yet so I don't know if they are as fun or not but yes... YES

I might get flamed for this but I enjoy this much much more than D3, it just feels and plays better

Its fun as hell that's for damn sure. I've only played the beta portion of Diablo 3 a few times with different classes, but it has drawn me in way better than Diablo did. I could probably say that I'm enjoying this more than I did the Diablo beta, but that doesn't mean Diablo isn't a bad game. It does say something though when this is a third of the price of Diablo and doesn't come with BS restrictions that hurt legitimate buyers just to guard against piracy.

I'm definitely going to be buying it. Playing Outlander has been an absolute blast. I don't really feel the other classes at low level, at least not on the Elite difficulty. I seem to have to run through a billion pots as all 3 other classes... slows down the pacing for me.
    Either way, still having fun.

I bet all of the classes will get beastly if I can just power through those low levels but so far (only 2x on Outlander) Outlander has just been a powerhouse plowing everything at any given level.

I wasn't terribly fond of Outlander, but I suspect it was because I didn't know that Cannons were heavy weapons for the engineer, not "ranged" weapons as such. It was a bit better when I switched to pistols and a bow, but my skill allotment was kinda butts, so I was kinda soured on it.

I tried an Engineer though, and hot damn was that a LOT of fun. I absolutely loved it. Pump those points into heavy weapon specialty and Healbot, making sure to drop at least a point in gunbot (at later levels when the cooldown is closer to the duration it's going to be unreal). For Hammer skills (though I used an awesome unique spear, Icebolt, and a unique goblin cannon that tore shit UP), I tried a couple but the only one I liked was the leaping-smash one. I forget names, obviously, but it was on the left side of the skill tree!

Just "finished" the beta, and it was awesome. Played as an engineer and used a Cannon primarily and just tore stuff up. The turret the engineer gets is pretty OP. I brought it out on bosses and their health just melted away. So much fun.

Yeah, I tried out construction Engineer and I loved the heal bot, spider mines, and the turret. The turret was way overpowered and made it always worth waiting around for the cooldown to be ready before you walked into a boss/elite. I tried out the Embermage, but I don't like when mage's skill trees are simply split into elements because it forces you to be well-rounded and weak.

I am trying out Berserker right now, and I think I might actually like it the most. I really want to push for a critical build for keeping myself alive.
