For each gear change your character temporarily stops. It's not much of an issue when on a single macro palette, but when I have to hit 2+ it becomes very noticeable. It's also impossible to blink cast anything that isn't a barspell/poison as the game simply freezes your character then changes gear.

@Kahjit: It's not about difficulty moving with a controller; it's about the game stopping my character when using 2+ macros for gear.

Edit: Another issue that most haven't considered is that if you're soloing and need to hit 2-3macros to do something, there are cases where you'll lag and your macro menu won't pop up. If that happens and you press X, you'll engage the monster which can kill you if you're kiting.

Non-obsolete systems are an advantage? When I played on PS2 many years ago, I did have the macro/movement lag, but it always pushed my character forward to wherever I should have been standing, which tells you that the server was already updated on your character's location. I honestly don't know if that was just me or what though. As for the macro menu not popping up, how old is your controller? I'm sure you push the button a lot to open the macro menu, so maybe you just wore it down.

Maybe I don't understand the concept all that well, but you're posting on a computer, maybe from work, which if is the case ignore this, and FFXI isn't exactly hardware intensive... So gimping yourself by playing on PS2 over PC and then pointing out all the advantages of PC? I don't understand. Hey, I know this is better, but I'm going to keep doing it my way and point out how much you guys cheat over me omgz. In all seriousness... wut?

has nothing to do with the controller. its a glitch where when you look at a menu or maximize text, after you cancel out it takes a few button mashes to get the macros to pop back up on the screen.

Wait, what? This sounds like what happens when you're riding a chocobo... if you swap gear but keep pressing forwards you'll stall for a second before jumping to the position you're meant to be at. You sure there's nothing wrong with your PS2? I've never seen anything like that happen in other people's PS2 videos.

It's off topic from Windower/Spellcast, but would you deny that PC players have an advantage over PS2 players?

I thought it was just lag from the PS3 (Known to be worse than PS2 for lag); however, my friend noted my character stopping while playing on PC using blinkmenot. Furthermore, since I've changed the macro to idle in MDT, I have successfully outrun all Firaga III unless I'm watching a movie or a mob blocks my path (No GM tool to stop that).

As for the macro menu not popping up, how old is your controller? I'm sure you push the button a lot to open the macro menu, so maybe you just wore it down.
The reason it doesn't pop up is because there's an interval of reaction between opening and closing the macro menu. It's faint, but if you spam the L2/R2 button, you'll notice that the menu won't open and close precisely to the amount of clicks you've initiated. Consequently, when trying to hit 2-3 macros quickly, you may accidentally engage the mob.

You're either angry or being assuming too much. Strictly speaking, people who play on PC using third party tools are cheating and have an advantage (Better understood as cheating because they have an advantage). The very fact that you suggest playing on PC is necessary to retain a level playing field denotes this point very clearly. The fact that third party tools are prohibited and offer abilities unavailable under normal conditions means it is cheating. The fact that these tools create a striking distinction in the capabilities of a PC versus PS2/3 player make it an advantage (Note how it's different from FM's example where both PC and PS2 players are capable of playing with a full stomach). Thus, strictly speaking, PC with tools is both cheating and an advantage. Some people, probably yourself, are unable to cope with this fact for some unknown reason. Perhaps your ego prevents you from acknowledging these facts. Perhaps you're oblivious to application of these definitions. Either way, you're fighting an uphill battle as far as labeling is concerned. The only comment ("woosh" if you may call it) I made that undermined the achievement of anyone was the joke about playing on PS2 and changing gear manually. Aside from that, you cannot accuse me of scorning people for using third party tools on PC.

Edit: Waffles check the 2nd response since that answers your question.

I'm pretty sure PS2 owners can own a PC too, I mean, I don't know for a fact cause my PS2 is broked.

Playing on one system is more advantageous than another. Difficult to understand? Maybe you shouldn't be here.

tl;dr. And I'm not mad at all haha. You're just saying how unfair it is for PS2/3 players when you're perfectly capable of playing on PC. I never said it wasn't an advantage. In fact, I'll say right now... They're advantages. Happy? Now that I've got all my anger out of the way... You're still complaining about people who aren't gimping themselves.

The very fact that you suggest playing on PC is necessary to retain a level playing field denotes this point very clearly.
What? Really? I'm suggesting that? Or is it fact? Bots have been around a very long time. Spellcast has been around a very long time. I'm not suggesting anything.

I was never arguing what was cheating or not... It's always been about you lowering yourself to PS2/3 standards. If you think it's cheating? Sweet. If you don't want to play PC with things that do not harm gameplay, but actually just make it more convenient and enjoyable? Awesome. But don't think for a second you aren't benefiting from all the other players using it. What is it? Turning a blind eye? Convenient huh?

Complaining? It was a question of how something could be called an advantage and I answered.

What? Really? I'm suggesting that? Or is it fact? Bots have been around a very long time. Spellcast has been around a very long time. I'm not suggesting anything.
Again, you're making assumptions on my behalf. No one mentioned anything about bots. Why are you bringing them up?

I was never arguing what was cheating or not... It's always been about you lowering yourself to PS2/3 standards.
Why are you so upset over what I play on?

If you think it's cheating? Sweet.
You should use a comma instead of a question mark. Conditional statements should have a consequent listed.

If you don't want to play PC with things that do not harm gameplay, but actually just make it more convenient and enjoyable? Awesome.
This statement has the same issues as the one listed above. Use a comma instead of a question mark.

But don't think for a second you aren't benefiting from all the other players using it. What is it? Turning a blind eye? Convenient huh?
It's both a benefit and a disadvantage. If I played SAM, people with AP radar would benefit me because it means Hagun is cheaper than it normally would be if players couldn't solo the ENM with assured victory. I don't play SAM and AP radar hinders me because people rather solo it than team up for the fight. It benefits me when I need to do VNMs and have someone who can find the mobs. It's a hindrance when I want to solo a VNM and someone with AP radar steals the mob I planned on popping because they have access to a program. There is no absolute because there are times when I gain from someone's advantage. However, in the end, it's not my advantage. It's another individual's advantage. Again, do you have a point or are you just raging?

We're not discussing whether Yugl is at an advantage or disadvantage against *player here*. We're discussing advantages in absolute. Do you or do you not think that PC has an advantage over PS2? That is, ceteris paribus, is someone on PC more capable than someone on PS2?

Playing on a PC with Windower is an obvious advantage. It changes the balance of the game dramatically (ie, making the game and internet usage non-exclusive increases the amount of time people are willing to spend grinding stupid tasks/farming), but people accept it because of how much better it makes FFXI's gameplay. SE hasn't banned for it because the Windower developer has gone out of his way to make sure most of the common plugins are benign.

Still, it's technically against the TOS. I wonder if they'll mass-ban for it after FFXIV is released to speed up the switch over.

Yes, it's an advantage. Read the past 7 pages. Who is saying it isn't?

Bots are relevant because it's PC based advantages.

I'm agreeing with you that PS2 is at a disadvantage and you just want to argue about everything.

As for "correcting" my grammar... No, it was correct as it was, and if you want a consequence, it's obviously me, and the rest of the forum, not giving a damn. We know, for the thousandth time, that they're advantages. Stop beating a dead horse.

It was sarcasm And it was never about arguing with you, but more of showing you how absurd you're being with it all. We know the advantages, no one is disagreeing. It's just silly to be so counter-productive based on "morals." That's all I've been saying.

Cheating and bots weren't mentioned until you posted about them. To recap what is going on, it looks like this:

Nightfyre>> What can spellcast do that active players cannot?
    Yugl>> *List of limitations*
    Noct>> OMG FUCK YOUR MORALES.

I don't play on PS3 because I don't want to cheat or receive an advantage. I do so because it's comfortable and what I've been working with for years.
