Um, I'm no expert on these laws since I don't plan on getting married anytime soon, but don't civil unions not grant a ton of the benefits that marriage do? -_- Unless it's changed recently, which it may have, idk.

I am still baffled why we americans are so paranoid and insecure at the presence of gays or when homosexuality is talked about. Homosexuality happens naturally, treat it as a fact of life and move on, like Evolution, oh never mind. I swear, US being one of the most advanced countries on the planet, are just freaking weird when comes to social issues.

The administration has proposed to grant gays hospital visitation rights, the same ones that heterosexual couple are entitled to, and I believe work insurance/benefits are not far behind. But all this is just a veneer, a facade to treat gays differently as blacks were in the past.

/it's ironic that blacks are voting for prop 8, you would think if anyone knows what the deprivation of rights feels like, is black folks. The same goes for Isrealis, I am starting to see a trend here.

I don't even think the scandals in the catholic church even matter with respect to this. Nothing involving the church or any church really matters in this argument. They think they do they *think* they are arguing to save marriage with respect to their church but they are not.

People forget that there is religious marriage which has no legal standing and can be as discriminatory as it wants and there is legal marriage which is seen and controlled by the government and really is just a single sheet of paper that is a legal contract that two people sign and then an officiant signs and 2 witnesses sign. The officiant doesn't even have to be a priest or a religious figure.

A gay president in 2012 ! Hilary Clinton I'm looking at you. Well she isn't gay but she does enjoy wearing pant suits.

Edit: I don't mind if gay people get married. When it comes to social politics I am very liberal.

Republicans should be in favor of gay marriage, if many of them truly believe in the limited government.

Unsurprisingly, I have yet to meet any republican who does so. Oh the irony of courting religious zealots.

9th district in california has always been incredibly liberal, so they most likely will deny the appeal, thus pushing it to the supreme court. The issue with the 9th is they have a tendency to go too far on the liberal agenda and come up with as many retarded decisions as they do smart ones. But as it is, with the past track record with them I would be very surprised if they sided with prop 8 supporters.

Of course the scandals matter. The church rejects gay marriage largely because of moral grounds, which they have none of speak of given all the past scandals. And guess why government still hasn't legalized gay marriage? religious folks and their lobbies.

More fun data for a bill passed 2 years ago!
By religion (not specific to Hispanics):
    64% of Catholics voted yes
    65% of Protestants voted yes
    90% of non-religious voted no.
    84% weekly churchgoers voted yes
54% of occasional churchgoers voted no
83% of people who've never been to church voted no
We try to shit on black people as "the reason it didn't pass" but obviously the problem is religious people.

Arnie is the best republican ever. people who don't know much about him joke "lol governator" but he's a pretty intelligent and fair-minded guy, for the most part. there are places where I disagree with him but it's not nearly as many as, say, Tim "The Antichrist" Pawlenty.

I'm loving all the crying for the pro-prop 8 people. Just keep reading "the reason we lost is because of the medias/judges bias. since he's gay" are you sure you just had no freaking argument?

    L. O. Fucking L. So, if the judge was straight he wouldn't have a hetero bias? Morons. I don't even see how the supreme court will rule in favor of prop 8. I mean if you take away the religious argument you have no argument.

I stand corrected since more blacks and hispanics are religious than not.

With midterm election coming soon, there will probably be no bill on gay marriage for another year or so if ever during obama's first term. Obama, I am disappoint. Sign an executive order like bush and call it a day for fuck sakes.

I love how whichever other state they were having a gay marriage debate in (NY? CT?) recently, the judge used language from the Tea Party to make gay marriage a states rights issue... and then like EVERY tea party pundit they talked to on TV was like "well uh... technically he's right but I don't approve of gay marriage"

fucking retards, I really hope conservatives are the reason gay marriage accidentally becomes a reality, that would just be too fucking delicious.

take away every single black vote (for and against) and the thing would have still have passed.

blax/mex tend to be more xtian/religious (compared to whites). take xtianity/religion out the picture and you get a dramatically different result as shown by the 90% in archi's post

huh, it was a real question. The political scientist in me has concern, from a PR perspective, if the judge was gay.

the judge was gay, but that's nowhere near a legal justification for him to recuse himself from the case.
