Of course there are some older folks who are fine with it, but a lot of them are told to be ashamed of it and their time of life was more religious. And nothing scares religious families than homosexuals(Because it leads to nazi's riding dinosaurs.)
I'm 21, my parents are 46 and 47. My dad didn't become a christian until he met my mother, he is fine with gay people doing whatever they want. My mother was raised religious her whole life, and when she read about this judge her response was "Oh boy, when are they going to give up."
There are less and less kids being brought up religious, and less of a pressure from society for people to be religious. In fact, most people would say society tells them that to be taken seriously you have to not be religious. Especially in fields like science and politics.
Again, not saying this is a 100% cookie cutter template, but it wouldn't be a stereotype if there wasn't a lot of truth to it at some points.
