There's a lot of good antiviruses, I have Symantec now but don't care for it too much. I did like Kaspersky. My coworker keeps Microsoft Security Essentials on his with AVG, he says they work together well but I havn't tested it myself to confirm.

I've tried a lot of different ones and Kaspersky is my favorite so far, denied trojans and shit from infected sites (not porn lol) but the automatic update is pretty annoying if you're playing a game, can kick you off.
Do like Meteora said and get CCleaner, run it every single time you're done using the internet to clean up your crap. Keep Malwarebytes and maybe pickup another anti-spyware program like Superantispyware, Spybot S&D, etc.
The very best thing you can do to prevent this sort of stuff is to make sure everything on your system is completely updated, this means Windows, your antispyware program and your antivirus. Using Firefox with NoScript/Adblock plus helps a ton too.
For Antivirus programs, if you're looking for free solutions there's Microsoft Security Essentials, Avira Antivir, or Avast (I haven't used this last one in years, so no idea how it compares lately).
For Pay Antivirus I've heard good things about Eset NOD32 and Kaspersky.
