deny isnt in lag of legends, so no you don't understand it really. they are heroes in dota, people will rage at you if you call them champions.

easiest to get into is ancient aparition and sand king really. their only job is to stun. when you're a support you're supposed to either buy chicken or wards at start and continue to buy them throughout the game. runes spawn at 0:00 so be there

what you should do is watch games being played(in the in game spectator mode) for a bit until you see who does what, then when you arent playing learn http://www.playdota.com/heroes
also: Warding is the most OP thing in the game, do it or lose

    Spoiler: show
people are going to rage at you because you will lose them the game at the beginning, just be ready for it. dota brings out the worst in people

The fuck are you talking about? Last hitting is probably the most important thing in any game, especially League of Legends.

Sand King and AA are horrible starter choices for a newbie, they have pretty damn high skill curves.

Play something with a straight-forward role like Sven or Tidehunter (STR), Anti-mage and Bloodseeker (AGI), Tinker and Zeus (INT).

Sand King isn't too bad of a starter hero since his combo is just q to ult and get more complicated when you get blink dagger. AA though is a terrible one for sure (I think Vandole is still talking about Vengeful Spirit cause you were doing that yesterday too >.>). Skeleton King is prolly one of the easiest starter champ (he only has 1 active skill, and it's a stun). Once you get the hang of your heros attack animation last hitting / denies get much easier. DotA's map is a lot bigger than LoL's, and you don't have free escape mechanism's, so if you over extend and someones mia, you're almost 100% gonna die.

LoL's community is full of noobs
    HoN's is full of assholes
    DotA's is full of elitests

    Take your pick of community.

Best way to learn is to just random and play. Don't be retarded though, random and then go read a guide on that hero, read it's abilities and find some core items you should work toward. In the beginning you will suck so bad you won't be able to build any of the core items because you will be dying so often, just build the cheaper items (bracers, etc.) This is how I learned HoN, just random read a guide. You will develop favorites, it's okay to pick favorites but realize you will have a very narrow understanding of the game until you've played and understand how every hero works and your play will suffer for it. Once you've become familiar with every hero and their abilities you will be in a position to begin worrying about other aspects of the game in more detail such as strategy, team dynamics and micro.

Focus on STRs while new. I second Skeleton King as one of the best noob heroes. Dragon Knight or Leviathan are also pretty low skill ceiling. Tanking is probably the easiest role. INTs are very squishy and their complex disables are often key to the battle, so I would avoid them until you develop better awareness and instinct. Carrying requires a very good knowledge of items and farming to do well.

I'm sad if I'm not beyond godlike when I play my Sand King.

playdota.com for all hero and item info.

    http://www.playdota.com/guides/alt-t...every-agi-hero
    http://www.playdota.com/guides/alt-t...every-str-hero
    http://www.playdota.com/guides/alt-t...every-int-hero

Those are the links I go too if I want a quick guide to a champion. Don't need to follow them to a T, but they give you a good base understanding of a champ you might not have played. If you want Blackice, I'll gladly run some practice games with ya and give you any pointers you might want.

yeah the dota community is pretty terrible when it comes to being newb. basically if you're not the best player in the match you should be prepared to receive criticism. it's a wonder how people can even withstand it enough to enjoy the game.

    anyway my suggestions for basics:

    1. as mentioned previously, learn an easy hero and get good with it. it will help you learn the game a lot quicker. there is a lot of game to play within the game. last hitting creeps, knowing what your hero does, what opposing heroes do, what hero combinations they're gonna use, what works at early game, middle game, late game, item builds, etc. etc. there's so many things happening all at once it can be really overwhelming. sand king was one good suggestion, as is vengeful. i recommend skeleton king cause he's about as basic as you can get and he is a very good hero to boot.

    2. eventually you'll pick up map awareness the more you play and i don't think it's something you can force. but pay attention to the map like you're checking your rear-view mirror. as you're doing whatever just take glances at it to take mental snapshots of where you are in relation to your team and your opponents. if you see a bunch of the opposing team missing and you're isolated (whether by yourself or with someone else) chances are you're gonna get ganked and you should look for safety. the map helps you both live and figure out when it's safe to attack. map awareness dictates everything in this game.

    3. use the practice match mode with dota 2. the bots are really smart and it's a great way to educate yourself with the game. test out all the skills with whatever hero you're working on and see how the items change the heroes. and get used to the interface. i haven't played dota in quite a while so coming back to a brand new UI has been a work in progress.

    4. there will mostly be people berating you for being newb. but there will be a few that will at least try and get you to play with the team, at least until they begin berating you too. try to listen to them. if they say stun this guy, do it. if they say b, then back up and run back to safety. the thing most people hate about new players is that they expect everyone to be able to perform certain minimum functions (which new players generally can't) and when it gets them killed it frustrates the hell out of them. you might be able to do yourself a favor and tell your lane partner you're still learning, and he might be able to help you out more. better yet, find some friends who will play with you.

    good luck

btw so far i'm liking that, for the most part, the majority of people have a good clue as to what they're doing.

Yeah the bots are better than most of the people I've played against/with.

Also god damn is the engine sweet, I don't know what the talk about it having lag is about cause it feels like DOTA should. Keep in mind that I hated the HoN engine as it felt so loose where DOTA2 is so smooth, I feel so much more in control than in HoN. At the risk of facing Dole's wrath it has a very LoL feel to the control of your character, which is a major plus in my books as that was one thing LoL did extremely well.
