Is there a hangout somewhere for Dota 2 beginners? I have experience with Dota but have yet to try out the Dota 2 beta and I'd much prefer playing with Bg'ers than random dudes in the matchmaking system.

You can try the practice rooms, they're *slightly* less ruthless when it comes to people dying or being noobs. Unfortunately though, the nature of the community from what I can see is like Dole has stated many times before "WELCOME TO DOTA, GET THE FUCK OUT!" So you can either ignore all the loud douche nozzles and learn at your speed like I've been doing or you can try out the practice games; maybe even make your own. You can also fill it with bots just to get some care-free practice in. The AI isn't fantastic, but they still respond to map pings and group gank once in a while.

Managed to play a game last night with two other friends and I think I did ok for my first time back into it. No idea what I was doing build wise really, but the game was pretty lopsided anyways. The other team was probably just bad. :/

Vandole and I play whenever we have agreeable schedules, but warning: we play to win. We pick heroes, items, etc. all along the goal of getting the W. Last time we played with BG people there was controversy because they were getting bored and they went Dagon.

I'll admit I'm still learning the game but I listen to instructions well and take the time to do some research before I play a new hero or really before I even played a pub match. Normally I've been playing Juggernaut and doing fairly well, but I'm going to start learning some supports soon. Aka, I'm interested if you don't mind someone with relatively little experience but isn't retarded.

I'm not that tryhard. I just don't care what hero I get and want the random gold! I just wish that some people be moderately competent and not be like this dazzle this one game I was in... with 2 magic wands DERP.

Also made my friend laugh really hard the other day. Went etheral blade on sniper and decided it would be funny to use it on a CM then blast him with an ult at point blank. I don't care it was overkill.

I definitely play to win, but there are plenty of things I either forgot about or flat out don't know. Knowing which situational items are best for a particular hero or who to disable/attack first in every skirmish are among those things. I listen well and I'm pretty competent otherwise though! I've primarily been playing LoL lately because that's what all my friends play currently. :< Dota 2 looks so much better though.

i recommend grouping up and playing together to learn as much as possible. talk to each other and learn from each other. and while i despise try hards in pubs, if you want to learn strong fundamentals while winning it's probably the best way to go to develop good habits. after you've achieved a certain level of proficiency you can do pretty much whatever you want depending on the competition (though personally i reserve the dagon for people that truly deserve it).

also make sure to watch replays or videos of high level matches. there's a great deal of information to glean from it, though playing in pubs is a completely different animal from a real match or scrim.

Im curious, lol is my first game of this type but would definetly like to play Dota2 . What are some of the major differnces i should be aware of if i happen to get a beta key?

Other way around. DotA relies less on teamwork and more on fed Anti-mage/Void 1v5ing entire team. You can't do that shit in League, unless it's pre level 30.

Those are really really niche pub-stomp carries and that only happens in extreme late game. That generally is not the way DotA happens, at least not in higher levels.

If you look at pro DotA games, the heroes that are banned first are teamwork/setup heroes like Batrider. And those heroes that dominate pub matches too in the hands of players that can facilitate well.
