It's worth noting that from what I can tell, it's not pure win/loss in the formula. Losing in a lower bracket seems to tank you faster, and loses while performing well according to your predefined role seem to be mitigated.

Yeah, I have some matches in high/mid that were loss so it's definitely not just winning. Looks like i'm 1/4 high 1/2 mid 1/4 low :/. Have to get rid of that low!
o.O All my matches are in High Skill o.O
Bromade with some people from the /v/ channel this morning and went off fucking around doing lvl 1 Roshan and what not, I played Lich. Tehehehe
Spoiler: show
Kis do you still play with Meastoso and all of them? I spoke to Nasya a couple of months ago but she's hardly ever on AIM anymore.
The filter is based off a generic rating for the match, so it isn't a precise measure of your own MMR even within the extremely vague low/medium/high classifications.
Like all team matchmaking based on individual MMRs, the game tries to balance the teams and not just the players. You could end up in medium games as a way to balance out an anchor, etc. This is the problem that plague HoN where good but not great people would be balanced with uncarryable anchors (HUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUE)
The system is better than HoN's, but the longer you go without a game, the larger the search pool becomes, and the wider discrepancy there can be between individual players in the match.

Got my valve invite.
I'm pretty late to the party with this one, is there anywhere to apply for beta anymore? Only started playing LoL a bit a couple of months back, looking forward to this.
So any advice for a complete noob to this genre? I got my invite a couple days ago and its pretty fun but i'm unsure of what I should be worrying about getting the hang of first. Should I pick like 2-3 different heroes of different types and just try to get good with them, learning what items go best with them?
probably better to just stick to 1 or 2. many people say skeleton king as your first hero to learn, and i'd have to agree. a hero like spiritbreaker is ok too. it has a little bit more nuance to it because of the charge but it's still a very simple hero. your first goal is to just learn how to navigate through the game and to try and enjoy yourself while learning, so if you pick fragile heroes (especially those with more complex skills) you will die quite a bit and you won't have a very good time.
try to just get a handle on the game, and after you feel like you're proficient at actually controlling a hero then you can branch out.
also, watch a lot of replays. in pretty much any game a match will be far different from a pub game but imo that makes it an even better utility. you can start off learning how to do things the right way and also how to develop your fundamentals. try the vods on www.joindota.com
