I mean all the holiday events are half mindless fun and half pure money grab with people purchasing favors to get the holiday tokens faster, then pumping out recipes that require special holiday quality items to complete the crafting so that Valve makes side profit from people using the marketplace.

But if this and the hat store is more profitable for them than us paying $30-50 upfront, I'm fine with it. I won't fault Valve for making money. They have to pay server costs, labor for everyone who is involved in the game, etc. And I'll even open my wallet occasionally to gamble on chests.

If they ever stepped into the realm where paying money gave players a competitive advantage (including paying for "early access" to heroes or having to pay to unlock heroes at all), that's where I would draw the line.

If you only want to play the mode for fun, can't you just play the practice mode and not need the ingots?

I don't understand the appeal of any of the pve events in this game personally thou.

I think that Wraith Night had far more grind. You had to play the game mode over and over to get your currency to purchase stuff, and you really had to buy favors (or hope to be paired with a bunch of other people who did) for it to be worth the time. Comparatively for this, you can simply play Dota 2 and get your Jade. The favors definitely help, but if you wanted to you could go through the entire thing playing normal Dota 2 and get something out of it.

But if you want, then you do the Year Beast when you have enough Flamesalt to get more Jade. And that's minimal grinding as long as you do the 2500 ingot tier, instead of doing like 24 runs of 150 ingots. If you have people who aren't retarded, you can easily hit the 10M mark to get 3000+ in payout. That is enough for the $5 chest every time (or a mythical/legendary if you want to actually open them). The amount of mandatory Year Beast mode grinding required to get rewards is far less than the amount of Wraith Night mode grinding required to get rewards.

If you want to compare the actual gameplay of the seasonal modes, when play the Year Beast you get to go straight to fighting the boss instead grind through the same 13 levels over and over. I think that's a plus. After a while Wraith Night was boring for me even with variation between the levels. That shit's just like Dynamis, a whole bunch of time going through the motions. The "variety" of different waves didn't do anything to make it not mind-numbing. When I play Year Beast I'm at least engaged until we hit the 10M payout mark since I actually have to be paying attention between its jumping and the hadouken spam. Then you can just instant lose after the 10M (unless you are trying to get the top 1% courier)

I think the only possibly good change would be to have some sort of cash out for Flamesalt Ingots for people that just don't want to fight the beast, like how in Wraith Night you could convert Shining Fragments into Phantoms.

Christ, did ANYONE see that hilarious triple raiper Medusa in this weekend's starladder? Flax was on commentary and I cried no less than 3 times from laughing so hard. Fucking 67 minute game with a 290 speed medusa hitting for +970 bonus damage.

tyr: i couldn't gank all day because pudge + chen constantly kept me at half hp or less from gank attempts. i had to spend all my mana on searing chains to run away. had i known leshrac was a downs from the beginning(even though he somehow got FB) i would have played a lot differently. if we queue up again i'll play TA and show you the more aggressive me

that leshrac kind of just ruined everything.

Bump for TI4 qualifiers and Compendium stuff.

Gaben keeps printing money. Prize pool is gonna be insane for this tourney. Crazy thing is only 25% of the purchases are going to the prize pool which means there were $11.6 million in purchases in 4 days.

I almost hope they give some of the pie to the 9-16th places for how much money is gonna be in this. Almost $4.5 million and nearly 2 months for people to keep buying compendiums and points.
