Well, he DID mention light speed travel, so assuming he meant covering 60 trillion miles in 30 minutes (120 trillion mph? hauling ass), then you'd wind up returning at an earlier date than you left unless you were a fucking pro navigator, and managed to plot your course to reach a point in spacetime after you left, but that's all kinds of fucking complicated.
The only way I can make sense of it is if you toss in a hyperspace gimmick.
Porting out in 30 hops, 1 hop a minute, each hop covering 2 trillion miles, that would reduce it to figuring out how to prove that extra dimensions exist/rotate through them/replot your position/destination accordingly.
Course, if you happened to whiz past a star system, the sight of a star blinking into existence, then the sky being torn aside... well, let's hope you don't have vertigo.
I always wanted to be a space pirate. Hawking knows what's up.
I just want big spacesations outside of Earth orbit. Is that so much to ask?
I just want the Mass Effect universe to come to fruition.

Careful what you ask for. First it's space stations, then it's enslavement from ugly looking green aliens, protecting you from the enslavement of ugly looking black aliens.
I hope that someday I can take a cheap vacation to a massive space station orbiting Earth with day trips to the moon for a picnic.

Someone learned about relativity from Trig Palin. If spaceships are built that can fly faster than the speed of light, a day on board would be equivalent to a year on Earth. That's because -- according to Einstein -- as objects accelerate through space, time slows down around them.

Seriously, reduce mass or something something something, relay, element zero, sciency-sort-of-stuff, something. Shut up, I'm not a scientist.
Well with all this talk about FTL travel it has to be said that something like this wouldn't actually involve the craft "moving" faster than light, but you get that result by shrinking the space in front of the vehicle and expanding the space behind. So the time dilation experienced would be limited to the the slower-than-light speed that the craft is actually going without the "space manipulation"
