Same exact situation except I only failed four times. I'm the second-worst driver in my family, so I never volunteer to drive to the beach/restaurants/whatever.
I've never been in an accident or gotten a ticket, I'm just an overall bad driver and don't enjoy driving. I almost never turn down getting a ride from someone else.
Speaking of road tests, they really need to start shortening the amount of time between renewals past a certain age, instead of continuing to increase it with age.
You know why Hellen Keller couldn't drive?
Spoiler: show
Not usually, but almost everyone I know drives 'more carefully' than I do (slower, but they don't do a lot of things like check blind spots 100% of the time, so it requires slower to be the basis for safer) so I find myself just bored when others drive, I get us there much more efficiently
Hell, that right there is why I trust my gf, with 0 years of driving experience, versus her brothers wife, with like 8 years of driving experience.
When I watch her casually as she drives, she's constantly monitoring everything around her, I'd prefer someone be overcautious any day, than driving an SUV over the roof of my car... call me crazy.
I only feel safe when it's me my Best Friend or Mom driving. I become very uneasy when anyone else does the driving.
I definitely prefer to drive for the most part, unless I'm just really not feeling it and if that's the case then my girlfriend will drive.
She isn't a terrible driver for the most part but she just does things that bother the crap out of me. The biggest thing is she doesn't text while I'm in the car but if she does get a message then sure enough she'll try and read it. And then there's me in the passenger seat always pressing that imaginary break pedal because she doesn't know when to stop.
Driving a car frightens me so much that I can't even remember directions. I'm far more relaxed on a motorcycle of any size, shape and type. Cars are big and unwieldy. Motorcycles are small, nimble, and I can get the fuck out of a bad situation easily.
It's not that I don't trust anyone else on the road that's driving with me, I just can't stand 99% of them. Should make this thread into a 'what irritates you the most about other people on the road' Like, people that slow down to 10km before beginning to make their turn or (my personal favorite) assholes that drive 30km in a 50km zone.
I agree the best time to drive is late at night when you don't have to (normally) deal with as much traffic. I try to avoid driving on highways when possible.
I think I misunderstood what the OP meant. I thought he meant other people on the road with you, but it seems, upon reading responses of those with better reading comprehension, that he meant being a passenger with someone ELSE driving.
Though I am extremely confident in my own driving ability, I still prefer being a passenger so long as the seating is comfortable. I drive for several hours a day for a living (pizza guy), so the last thing I want to do when I'm off work is drive some more.
Unfortunately, if there's drinking involved, I'm always the designated driver (only non-drinker in the group, pretty much).
I don't have any trust problems with others but sitting at the passenger seat generally feels much more scary/fast than driver's seat at same speed.
I don't let strangers/friends drive my car but I'm all cool with GF (she is not a dumbass) and family. They all drive safe just like I do. And yeah, I don't have any friends that'd put their feet on the dashboard lol.
If any of them happens to crash my car I wouldn't mind at all as long as it doesn't involve some sort of an injury. Accidents happen. They suck, but they do happen![]()
Haha I'm a driver too, but I actually enjoy driving when I'm not at work. Just recently bought an Envoy Denali and paying for it with my Pizza Hut tips so I'm trying my best to enjoy it lol.
I'm usually the one driving anywhere I go, mainly because I can't stand cars with a stock sound system. Need some boom and sounds like shit stock. Nobody drives either of my cars, and pretty much the only times I'm riding with someone else is in my friends WRX Wagon to go cruising around, or with my parents somewhere.
I only drive to and from work which is about 5km away. Other then that I don't really do much driving. I trust most people I know to drive me places as long as they are not drunk(much).
Ever since I've gotten my own license I noticed that I'll always co-drive when I'm on the passenger seat. Always try to brake when I feel they aren't braking when they should and sometimes I'll try to mirror aswell though that doesn't really work well from a passenger seat
It's kind of funny this thread popped up now since I recently found out I had an expired license and when I tried to renew it I got told to get a doctor's approval (again) due to me being registered as having a medical condition. I have a birthdefect on my aorta valve and had heartsurgery in 1998 for this (ross procedure for all the med majors). Anyway, now I'm technically not allowed to drive a car and have to get driven and get picked up by my dad or brothers to or from work.
If I'd have to grade my family then I feel most comfortable with my 2nd eldest brother (I'm youngest of 3). Who actually drives with aggresive acceleration/cornering but always keeps good distance from the car in front of him and almost never speeds and has a good eye on surroundings. My dad tends to brake really late and hard and has a tendency of changing lanes and corner reallllly slowly and always has to ask 10 times if hes going the right way (I blame his age, lol). My eldest brother I feel doesn't pay much attention to his surroundings, a few times I've actually had to yell or he wouldve hit a cyclist.
Ofcourse like most people I think I drive bestNow I just need my license again so I'm not dependent on others driving for me
