You would be surprised how well a PF being used as a wall is.

I wont touch the fucking thing with a 10 foot pole as zerg because it will kill 40 supply of my army before I kill it and thats without it being repaired by 20 scvs if its at a gold or something.

Looking for some assistance, as this happens to me quite a bit..

    http://screplays.com/replays/disharmony/11418

ZvP, I end up securing a few expansions, trying to transition to mid-late game... and I end up being severely limited by vespene, and sitting on wayyyy too many minerals (3k+)

I can't really 'burn them up'- obviously the idea is to use the minerals rather than sit on them, but I'm at a loss here. I could pump mass Zerglings, but my opponent was walled into his base with plenty a cannon so it'd just be throwing money into the incinerator for the sole purpose of.. burning it, basically. I know my late game transition is sloppy (sticking with roaches/muta rather than trying to push for, say, Ultra's, which I tried at the end by making a Hive, but I feel like maybe I should have done that sooner..)

By watching videos and such I've gotten the impression that a great way to burn extra cash is to expand again- however, I do this, saturate the line pretty quick, and same issue. I end up with a huge mess of hatcheries and queens everywhere, and, while I simply powered through the opponent via cash in this game, I'm not sure how else to approach this issue. Thoughts?

If you do the expand stuff, just mine gas, and not minerals, if you're in a high mineral count, you don't expand for minerals, just go after the gas. and just resaturate once your other bases start running low

Honestly zerglings compliment most standard builds, and are excellent at drawing fire. Don't count them out. Even if you are going Roach Muta, lings are great at taking hits, I played a game recently where I went Thors+Blue Flame Hellions and the lings where just roasted but it allowed time for his roaches to get into range to attack and I got destroyed.

I am watching it right now and ill give you a rundown of what you need to to in a little bit.

EDIT: Okay I watched it fully and I see your problems.

    1) You never saturated your expo, yes I know minerals were not your issue it was the gas but if he was more aggressive the money pays off and helps when you take a 3rd/4th to transfer some over.
    2) You played to his strengths the whole game. You got the shortest range unit, roaches, and pushed a choke with them. As far as I'm concerned roaches are a melee unit because EVERYTIME you attacked you had 1/3rd to 1/5th of your army attacking with the rest of them trying to move into range getting free shots on them and that caused you to lose several battles.
    3) Your lack of micro when you bust down his back door caused you to lose that fight when you should have won for the same reason as #2, only a few were shooting the rest were doing nothing.
    4) Don't try to push a choke with roaches in general. run up with banelings first and break the wall which was weak (1 gate+pylon+cannon?) easily destroyed by8 banelings and you could have waltzed in with whatever you wanted
    5) you saw a forge/core and 1 gate, he had no money for anything and sat with 2 zealots on a 2 space wide choke for like 5 minutes, should have taken advantage but you didn't scout it.
    6) scouting with a OL more, you would have seen no defense by nexus and made mutas or saw he expanded WAY late and could have pushed his back door sooner but you never did or try and nydus him
    7) evo chainber early but never got any upgrades for anything, should remember to get them.

Overall you played well but your execution was poor and kept playing to his strengths and doing so he was able to take his smaller army and beat yours but overall lost to you in the resource count because he turtled. I would take a 4th around 15 minutes as you waited till 10 minutes after your 3rd to get a 4th which I know you didn't need but its one more thing for him to kill and gives you map control.

^ That helps immensely. If anyone recalls.. I was asking for trial keys just about a week or two ago, I finally caved and got it, and I've been playing it like.. nonstop.. but I've had it a short time and I'm still learning. Writeups like the above are like omg helpful- I wish I had RL friends who played who could coach me through what I'm doing right/wrong, as often times I have no clue.

    Thanks!

Liking zerg? Watch some idra/fruitdealer/whoever else that's badass at zerg playing. Really helpful for me when I started zerg.

Just watched half of it, you could try backdooring them if their front step is like... a huge chokepoint for you/heavily defended.

If you want to work on your zerg, i can help, my zerg is pretty good. Sure watching idra/fruitdealer is good, but you need a more, basic simple start. Like your macro management. Add me on bnet i'll be glad to help you out. Misuicide.789

Yeah, I spend like.. seriously half my time (most of my free time) watching videos. Idra and FruitDealer are the main two, they astonish me. I've also been watching Day9's zerg videos, and while I understand and comprehend while watching/reading, actually executing is a different story. Idk if I lose focus, or forget what to do, or try and do too much.. haha. I'm really new to RTS, so that doesn't help, but I consider myself a pretty good gamer... guess I just need more than 50 games. Its depressing being in Bronze on all modes though, both Terran and now with my swap to Zerg ;'(

Backdooring I didn't even consider, I was totally at a loss.. I found the backdoor by entrance, heh. I'm not all too familiar with the maps yet and which ones have a rock backdoor. I guess I could've nydus wormed- I tried that out in single player today and got comfortable with the mechanic, now its just something I have to work into the mix.

As far as playing strengths- I realized pretty late that Muta was a pretty strong idea, and at that point, even though I had 3500 minerals, I had nowhere near enough vespene to get a sizeable Muta force. I was stuck with 50 larva and only able to produce 1/2 at a time- that's kinda why I just brute forced what I had at him, I got frustrated. lol.

I added you btw, my name online is Disharmony, cc 704

Anyone willing to play me, I'm lookin' for someone who doesn't mind some practice games and coaching me a bit \o/

Just as long as you understand why they did what they did, the experience should come later after playing lots and lots... and lots of games. Really, I think I've watched about 5x more replays than I have actual league games in SC2; feels alot more enjoyable watching a really good game.

Watching and learning is useful to a point, but if you really want to be a better player you have to play a tremendous amount. Even knowing what to do or how to use good builds isn't enough in an RTS, you need muscle memory and practice in every imaginable situation.

Watching replays and VODs is still great though, if only for the entertainment aspect. Not everyone is going to be a pro level SC2 player, can still enjoy the game.

    Countering a rush..(playing Zerg)

I've tried to get into scouting some more, sending an initial scout to look for anything 'funny' (i.e. no buildings in base, lone probe going somewhere awry for a potential proxy, etc) and then usually a secondary scout to try and see whats going on once some buildings are built, but T/P players tend to wall-off (Bronze league..) and I have no way of seeing what's going on inside. Is sacrificing an Overlord my only option here? I try to set myself to learn a particular BO, whether its 14pool/15hatch, 12pool to gas, roaches to speedlings etcetc.. but the cheese just catches me offguard every single time. Even placing a zergling at the bottom of the enemies ramp to get a heads up when they move out kinda leaves me at a loss, since if I don't sense something right away, I'm using my minerals to build drones / expo / etc.. and I can't build up a sizeable force by the time they get to my base.

I'm obviously still having mid/late game issues, but today I've been getting all sorts of fucked by trying to setup for a decent game and I've got four zealots in my base, marines saying what's up to my main, etcetc... and I can't really answer back. Tips?

Keep an OL near their base (usually your initial overlord) and fly it in to scout if necessary. Morph into overseer if needed and goop some shit too if you see stuff spinning/blinking/pulsing.

How early of a rush is this? Usually 6-8 zerglings is a good start after pool is done, then just ramp up some more if you know a push is coming. Honestly, zerglings are pretty awesome in numbers, so unless you're just completely offguard, you shouldn't be behind that much vs. an enemy army.
