I really hate our media. They buried that story about the Pentagon deep enough most won't see it. People who work in the Pentagon, lost loved ones on 9/11, were at the Pentagon on 9/11, have no problem with Muslims practicing their faith IN the Pentagon oh so many feet away from where the plane struck, not blocks away.

Zoobernut: The stats on Muslim deaths in 9/11, I believe, was 18. So about %0.006.

Look, one way or another, the mosque is getting built. Go for it, it's well within their rights. You cannot, however, tell me with a straight face that the people in charge of this project didn't consider what might happen.

The only blessing in this whole thing, is the poll today showed 68-71% of New Yorkers oppose the project personally, but half of the opposed agree the Constitution protects the right - 67% agreement. That poll is an amalgamation of those who view Islam favourably (42% inappropriate) versus those who view Islam unfavourably (88% inappropriate).

Which still means 29% of the people polled still have no idea how the country works. Approaching a third. What I'm saying is one of them will do something unbelievably dumb, and the world will see it(AND ONLY IT for a week) and react accordingly. All this publicity, the anti-muslim protests, the taxi stabbing, this september 11 as "Burn a Quran Day" is a gift on a platter for extremists.

[Updated] The man who allegedly stabbed a cab driver after learning that the driver was a Muslim is Michael Enright, a 21-year-old filmmaker from upstate New York. Enright -- who shoots video for a New York-based peace group that counts Cordoba Initiative as one of its partners -- has been charged with attempted murder as a hate crime, and police say he was "very, very intoxicated" when he got in the cab at 6 p.m. last night.

This story is so upsetting. Olbermann did a feature on it. He had a guest who's pregnant daughter died at the WTC. She is from an activist group September 11 Families For Peaceful Tomorrows, that supports the Cordoba/Park51 project. Her interview answers are intense and what she says is beautiful.

Tomorrow there will be a press conference from the NY Taxi union and Mayor Bloomberg as well as the taxi driver victimized by the hate crime, regarding the issue.

Sharif, 43, a yellow taxi cab driver slashed across the neck, face and shoulders by a passenger during an anti-Muslim hate crime will stand with fellow New York Taxi Workers Alliance members, and community, immigrant and Muslim organizations to call for an end to the bigotry and anti-Islamic rhetoric in the debate around the Park 51 Islamic Cultural Center, referred to as the Ground Zero Mosque. “I feel very sad. I have been here more than 25 years. I have been driving a taxi more than 15 years. All my four kids were born here. I never feel this hopeless and insecure before,” said Mr. Sharif. “Right now, the public sentiment is very serious (because of the Ground Zero Mosque debate.) All drivers should be more careful.”

Islamic Center Vandalized in California; Kentucky Board Rejects Mosque

More anti-Muslim incidents are being reported around the country as the mosque controversy grows. On Wednesday, police in Madera, California, said they’re investigating recent vandalism at a local mosque as a hate crime. Signs were left at the Masjid Madera center reading, "No Temple for the God of terrorism at Ground Zero" and "Wake up America, the Enemy is here." The signs were credited to a group calling itself the "American Nationalist Brotherhood." A brick was also thrown at the center last week.
Meanwhile, in Kentucky, local officials have rejected a building permit for a new mosque in the town of Mayfield. A local Somali group had sought to build the mosque, but the Mayfield zoning board rejected the application by claiming there’s insufficient parking space. According to local press reports, cheers broke after the board announced the decision to a packed hearing. The American Civil Liberties Union says it’s monitoring the case to determine if ethnic bias was involved.

Study: More Than Half of Poor Infants Raised by Mothers Suffering from Depression

A new study says over half of babies living in poverty are being raised by mothers who suffer bouts of mild to severe depression. The Washington, DC-based Urban Institute says the high rate of depression among low-income mothers could affect their children’s development. One in nine infants in poverty with mothers that have severe depression are typically breastfed less than other infants. Just 30 percent of low-income mothers suffering from depression said they had received medical help.

Michael Enright, the raging drunk who nearly killed a Muslim cab-driver in Manhattan this week, is being held without bail following his arraignment on hate crime charges. Enright, a film student, is finishing a documentary about Marines serving in Afghanistan, where he was embedded earlier this year for 35 days.

Enright stabbed the man after an apparently civil conversation about the driver's Muslim faith. Then Enright allegedly yelled, "This is the checkpoint," and slashed the drivers throat and arm.

According to friends, Enright was usually kind and mild-mannered. He volunteered with Intersections International, a liberal organization dedicated to religious tolerance and peace.

"The person who volunteered for us is a really good guy," Intersections International executive director Rev. Robert Chase told the media. "He's responsible, he's been generous, he's concerned about the issues in the world."

"He's a really nice guy to be around," a college friend told the New York Post. "He's a great kid," a neighbor said.

But: Enright was arrested twice last year, for disorderly conduct and underage drinking. According to the Post: "College friends said Enright had been sober for the last year."

And a friend tells the Daily News that Enright had seemed troubled and angry since his return from Afghanistan.

The Daily News also reports that cops found a diary on Enright that was filled with anti-Muslim rantings:

When he was arrested Tuesday in midtown, Enright had a personal diary filled with pages of "pretty strong anti-Muslim comments," a police source said.

The source said Enright's journal equated Muslims with "killers, ungrateful for the help they were being offered, filthy murderers without a conscience."

It's kinda like if you have two siblings in a house, one is 13 and the other is 15. When mom leaves she is vague about who is in charge so the two kids start fighting over control of the house. One thing leads to another and things get violent and they forget that they have the same parent and live in the same house. All of a sudden the older one is accusing the younger one of firebombing their room, and the younger one is claiming the older one is watching too much TV and not appreciating its existence enough.
