Man the game looks so pretty on nVidia cards. I really hope they fix this bullshit shading issue with ATI cards.
Decided to go exploring one last time. Been wanting to see this place but forgot about it till earlier.

We'll miss your little Buttons character, Buttons.
I basically turned everything to max my ATI card and FFXIV but for some (HD5870).
My fps was between 35-60, but it never went lower then 35 no matter how many ppl were around me.
I mean i dunno or dont think this is smoother then Button and i wished i knew all his FFXIV and GPU configuration.

I mean you can see the grass flying around when i run, dance or do anything, i'm pretty amazed.

I could be wrong and hope you guys can give me your opinion, with all my 3D configuration max and FFXIV almost. I was hoping they be better or as good as Button SS hehe. But i'm glad at least i can play this way at high fps.
I would love to hear anyone input or help on my configuration.
This is my PC: I7-920 @ 2.7ghz, 12GB Ram, win 7 64bit, Evga X58 Classified SLI Motherboard, GPU Diamond ATI HD 5870.
This where the configuration i used:
ATI
-Smoothvision HD: Anti-aliasing - 8X
-Smoothvision HD: Anisotropic Filtering - 16X
-Catalyst A.I. - Advanced
-Mipmap Detail Level - High Quality
-Wait for vertical refresh - Always ON
-Anti-Aliassing Mode - Super-sample AA
-OpenGL Setting - Triple buffering (uncheck)
FFXIV config
Multisampling: 4x MSAA (8x seems to glich on me for some reason)
Buffer size: Resolution
Shadow Detail: Standart
Texture Quality: High
Texture Filtering: Higest
Next think i could do is overclocking my GPU and see better result maybe, but i never done it before.
Please pardon my English and grammar![]()

I've seen the GPU, FPS, etc info posted on some screen shots. What program are you running that allows this to be displayed?
I think it has to do with the difference between ATI and nvidia cards. Your PC has way higher specs than mine lol.
i7 870 @ 2.93Ghz
4 GB Ram
Gigabyte nvidia Geforce 460 GTX 1GB
Gigabyte H55M- USB3 motherboard
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
Nvidia Control Panel Settings all set to application controlled.
Game Settings on Medium-High, fancy stuff set to off.

Atm it seems that ATI cards have higher fps but don't look as nice and nvidia cards give a nice smooth picture but also have lower fps. At least that is what I have heard.
That's exactly right for me Buttons. I use a GeForce 470 card and with max graphics everything looks absolutely stunning before tinypic or PS compresses my images. But my FPS is horrible, even when I turn down the graphics. With everything at max I run at 15-20 FPS max and when I run everything at 50-75% of max it runs at 30-35FPS. I'm hoping they come out with some updated drivers to make things smoother (or FF:XIV gets its act together..)
Yeah, that's MSI Afterburner.
Heh. My CPU is crap compared to yours, but same card. My pic up there was taken at 1680x1050 with 2x AA D: Should've gone with 4x, but didn't try. My FPS gets borked to 15-25 while in town, or around the aetherite really. Shtsux. Oh well. Probably has to do with optimization, obviously.. and some drivers for the 400 series cards.
Ah i see, thx Button.
So basically this is how it goes:
ATI @ Max and high fps
or
NVIDIA @ Max and very low fps / @ half and still not high enough fps
I take the high fps, bcz at when i play at work with my nvidia pc and the fps goes around 20 it's so freaking annoying, after playing from home lol
yea i beat that's why i cant complain with HD5870 in town or around the cristal @ max i stay around 35+ and when i go explore i'm at 55-60Heh. My CPU is crap compared to yours, but same card. My pic up there was taken at 1680x1050 with 2x AA D: Should've gone with 4x, but didn't try. My FPS gets borked to 15-25 while in town, or around the aetherite really. Shtsux. Oh well. I'm sure in the future we will be able to make FFXIV look much better with some registry tweaking.
Ambient occlusion thing is like -50% fps on any card, with it off you get high fps, depth of field doesn't impact fps too much.
I was getting 30-40 fps just out in the field myself with Ambient occlusion, with it off its a constant 60 everywhere and around people
It creates more shading in areas that get less ambient (sky) light. Basically you'll see more realistically darker shading on places like under the brim of a hat, in the crevasses of your quiver, your armpits, crotch, etc.
It looks pretty good, but not -50% FPS good.

It's not about darker shading. Ambient occlusion tries to accurately mimic how light dispurses on various surfaces. If you have a completely matte surface, the lighting will be much less attenuated compared to a very reflective surface.
