Gah, i suppose its expected that i fail the local leves when trying to do them at rank 1? Are crafters supposed to craft normal easy stuff like nuggets-> bars till they hit rank 5 before doing a local leve then?

Yeah, for the mouse controls I meant more PC-oriented people. Personally Motionjoy works fine for me, however if they make it less clunky and add decent PC controls I may have to go back to key-binds to be more effective.
P.S.
Dose anyone know on a technical note if there's vibration in FFXIV yet or am I missing some setting?
its a bad idea to take a have a system like this with no feedback on if its working properly, and no one could give feedback on if it was working properly, because no one knows how its supposed to work
As to the explaining systems, yeah they had a huge manual, in which they didnt explain many things very well, no explanation on the party exp system or experience chains, very basic on skill chains and magic bursts. yeaaaa i know they like people to discover things, but somethings should definately be explained. As is, people only have a rough idea how to avoid surplus, and the only way to tell how much you have is to kill some things and see what happens.
Avelle I've read your posts since you started beta and I just wanted to say that I love you; no homo.
When a true fan of FFXI such as yourself posts comments like this about FFXIV, it really shows me that SE has a lot of work to do.
On a sidenote: I haven't hit surplus XP because of a combination of myself only playing once every 2 days and the fact that outside of some minor levels in armory (which I threw away because I couldn't stand the frustrating UI after 3 phases of crafting), I only have Lancer leveled.
I play with friends on Emp that have 10 levels in nearly every fighting class, and multiple synths leveled up. I also don't plan on playing once every 2 days upon retail, as I'm not getting my money's worth of a MMO if I like it so little that I play it 3-4 times a week, even if I am swamped with work - you always find time for your passions in life.
When retail starts, I'll be playing at the pace that some of my other friends are. If surplus has hit me by then, I'll be far more annoyed than I currently am. SE claims to want people to try other things, but if that's the case, slap surplus on ONE class at a time only, instead of roadblocking people from 3 or more classes with surplus effecting them all.
Next thing we know, they'll have a system developed for anti-HNM that slaps a "surplus droprate" on HNMs that one particular linkshell or set of people claim repeatedly.
Whoops, I'd better not give them any other bright ideas.
@Destinye: SE has never explained all of their game systems and concepts at launch in the MMO world - they certainly didn't in FFXI, and I'm not inclined to believe that we'll be reading a nice, lengthy paragraph explaining how surplus fully works, how to get rid of it, and what to do to prevent it. They didn't have to explain shit in FFXI for people to both figure it out themselves or ignore the fact that they haven't said anything and continue to play.
Couldn't it still be the case that surplus fatigue is only a tool for use during beta to get people to make with combining classes?
I will be shocked and dumbstruck if Square preserves it as a feature after launch. That would be a shining example that they really hadn't learned a single thing in the last 8 years. Particularly that behavior should be rewarded or incentivized but not penalized, then you just piss people off.
There's a ton of things I actually like about the game, but almost all of them are overshadowed by the things wrong with it. They seem to want this deep meaningful crafting and gathering system, but it's slow, clunky, and when it comes down to it just not fun. Combat has improved a lot since I played a bit on a borrowed account last phase, but guild leves themselves are ultimately uninteresting. Maybe it's because I've spammed thousands of quests in Warcraft but even that system seems more fun to me. A couple of friends of mine got on last night and we all started from level 1, in the end I think we had more fun spamming emotes at each other than anything else. :/
I've been waiting on this game for a long time. I deeply, truly, want this to be the next big thing and everyone can just mass exodus from FFXI and continue their fun and adventures in the next generation of MMO and enjoy playing a game that doesn't have FPS capped at 30 or have to compete in a retarded claim system that rewards botting, but this just isn't there yet. Roughly one month to go and I really don't see how they are going to make the necessary improvements by release. It's like they took nearly everything they learned from FFXI and tossed it straight out the window and decided everyone would be happier with a higher resolution world. As happy as I am with HD mithras, it just isn't enough. :/
edit: Also SE, if you are incapable of coming up with a decent control scheme for PC players in the year 2010, just tell us upfront and stop trying. We know you were bad at it with FFXI, probably because it was your first major attempt at a PC game (ff7 doesn't count, ok) but there's seriously no excuse for it at this point.
So you feel that right now, FFXIV = FFXI-2?
This is the reason not as many of us complained about it till now. We thought it was either bugged... a product of beta so that we were forced try other things or that there was some way to get rid of it through the games systems that was either in our faces or not implemented yet. The interview from gamescon shows that it was their intention to keep it at launch and that there wasn't anyway to get rid of it other then to move on to something else. That's why we are all angry about it now. They really were that stupid but hopefully they won't 'stay' that stupid once they see how many it really did piss off.
So if the surplus thing is a check to get people to do something else...yet people complain about only grinding in an mmo........
Anyway, considering there will be a lot more to do in retail it seems worse than it really is because the beta has like zero content outside of guildleves and tutorial quests and since I've done multiple classes just to try things out I guess I'm not seeing how bad it supposedly is.
Anyone know what's wrong with my shit?

Delete the version.dat in your my documents folder
Do you think you might have anything blocking the program? Peerblock was blocking ffxiv for me.
Only thing under My Documents > My games > FFXIV Bets is config.sys and config.lng
No prob
edit: does installing programs while ffxiv is on crash ffxiv? I was just installing ventrillo when ffxiv crashed
Random question thread, you say? Well... here's mine.
