FFXIV Random Speculation/Question thread VI: Phase 3, FFXIV is still on the rag!

My guess is it's a system to slow down players in retail from reaching the level cap by making them level multiple jobs up at once.

They probably want time to create some endgame content so people don't get to the cap and get bored/quit.

Evidence to this is the fact that it's a pretty major part of the game right now that SE hasn't acknowledged or explained in the least. They know if they publicly explain what surplus really is there will be a backlash of angry players and negative press. Can they dodge surplus questions for another 5 weeks?

Of course this is just the conspiracy theorist in me talking. :D

Well lets hope their reason behind this is not because they don't have enough content lined up. But I don't think this is something just to force people to do other things in beta, pretty safe bet surplus will be in retail. I just wish SE would come out and say exactly what it is, I thought they were done with keeping the players in the dark. So far they have showed they only tell us what they want, and its up to us to figure everything else out on our own.

Its all over the feedback forums, and has been since everyone started to notice it in phase 2. They simply have not addressed what it is.

I can almost 100% guarantee that surplus has nothing to do with the level of your weapon. If it did, my skill would not go back to normal and stop getting the surplus by switching to another class or crafting. At my level using a level 1 weapon, I would keep the surplus, but I'm able to change class to stop grinding on the surplus class, go do something else for awhile, then come back and the surplus is gone for awhile. I would continue getting surplus and gimped skill if it was based on the level of your weapon. But like I said, try it out yourself.

In Phase 2, I got surplus on literally all of my classes. Carp got hit at 14, Botany got hit at 18, Lancer got hit at 18, Weaver got hit at 11.

I repaired everything as best as I could. (Can't repair underwear) Same surplus give or take. I got the same surplus regardless of what weapon I used on Weaver (You could NPC buy the level 10 Needle) I tried Botany naked (Sadly, again, still have underwear on that can't be repaired)

I would like to think it was not having items of the "Optimal Rank" (Abilities also have Optimal Ranks, too, and no way people are going to stop using Second Wind because they outleveled the "Optimal" part of it. Also, guess you can't wear that Haubergeon because you are 10 levels too high for it now), but it's not. It's not fixating on one job either. It's not repairing your gear. It's not deity. I can't tell you what it is, but I can't tell you what it isn't.

It isn't something that's going to net XIV a lot of players. I am all about not having my hand held. But, this is fucking ridiculous.

BTW Have they even stated yet what the level cap in retail is? I'm assuming it's 50. Didn't FFXI start out with that?

People seem to be forgetting beta 2 wasn't exactly smooth sailing off the bat. I'd say it didn't sail at all for an entire week.

I'm kind of glad that they haven't announced anything about resumption of the beta yet. More time = they're doing some serious overhauling of the code I hope.

My favorite glitch is still the one where if enough ppl were escoring Sisipu it would crash the server.

(Sadly, again, still have underwear on that can't be repaired)

In FFXI I used to cast heals alot by typing out the spell and the name of the target afterwards. Does that still work, if so do you have to use the persons full name(I would imagine so), with quotes around it? Just from hearing people complain about trying to target others for heals it seems like an alternative I would be used to if it continued to be an issue in retail.

I got a key as well, but when I log into the Beta Tester Website, it shows as me as another member in the Welcome, " member name " [log out] Section. lol. WTF is up with that? I emailed SE about it, no response....

Yes you can use IME. I was typing in japanese some stuff, you can ask people like silverbreeze, I was tossing tables EVERYWHERE!

Idk curing people in other PT's was tough, seemed like a decent solution to me, and it wasn't too bad if you can type fairly quick; having two names and having to put quotes around them would definitely make it worse though.
